Lol, no, it's fine. It makes sense to those who prefer to think in terms of the separate moves.

I'll attempt the illegal move of 23/17 17/16.
Moving up 23/22 without running out to 16 is a close second. We are behind in the race, even after playing this roll, and this argues against running. However, 8/2 is an ugly play, bringing in a checker deep when the game is far from over. That checker would be nearly out of play for the remainder of the game, creating general inflexibilty.
So, moving out despite being behind in the race seems best by a small margin.
