A very useful site is Art Graters Incredibly Useful Backgammon Portal, on www.back-gammon.com , with links to just about every useful bg site in the world.

This includes various links for finding local clubs. If you're new to backgammon then I'd recommend trying to find some live games to play as well. Online we lose out a lot on hearing why people chose particular moves over others.

There's also some quizzes and the latest info on getting gnubg and other bots. Some people seem to become masters at the game now without ever having human opponents!  

Spiderman is Irish?  I could believe the Green Lantern, but not Spidey!

I'm the wrong person to ask, if you want the times of the tourneys in your own local time... all that world clock stuff totally confuses me.  Perhaps diane or socksey could help you sort that side of it out.

I run tourneys five nights (my night time in Australia) a week, one is in progress right now... registration for that opened an hour ago... which will give you some idea of the times for you locally.

When you are online at fibs, and a tourney opens up for registration, you open a chat message to TourneyBot like you would to chat to a friend.
All tourneys have a four digit number... for example my one tonite was 4851.   In the chat message to tourneybot, you type "register 4851" without the " marks, and then you have signed up to play in the tournament. 

When play in the tournament starts, the tourneybot sends you a chat message, with the name of your opponent, and the number of points to invite for.  Some tourneys are different to others, so it pays to check with the Tourney Director at the time, what the set up is for the tourney running.   In my own tourneys, the regular matches at the beginning are for three points, and if you make it to the final, you play for five points. 
Tourneybot automatically records the results, so you don't need to tell anyone who won or lost your matches and what the scores were.  All you need to do is sign on, then enjoy the matches. 

Also something you need to be aware of, is the timeout clock.  In my own tourneys, it's set to five minutes.  What this means, is that if you get disconnected from the system, you have five minutes to log back on and resume your tournament match.  If for some reason you can't make it back in that time, your opponent automatically wins, and moves on to the next round, and you get timed out of the tourney.  The timeout clocks can vary for each tourney, so it pays to communicate with the TD, so you know the set up when you are signing on to a particular tourney.
