Docking ~ 8000 rating points from bot-droppers was definitely a major step towards implementing the behavioural codes of FIBS. Thus all fisbters are pleasured to see that "Bot droppers have gotten their come-uppance.". But is bot-dropping the only act that's illegal and forbidden in FIBS?!!

Whenever you log in to your FIBS account, you get this message:

This server is on the net to meet people from all countries.
All sorts of racists and fascists are not allowed to login here!
Rude language will not be tolerated on this server. Be nice.

Well, may be my English is not good enought to recognize what's "racism" and what's "rude language". So I just thought it would be interesting to provide other fibsters with some facts about what's going on in pulic shouts and then ask them that whether they're the proof that FIBS is home to some really heinous racist and villain jerks or not.

1- First let start by Im_not_gimmeluck's shouts:

The irony was that inim, the guy who always accuses others of racism and nazism, didn't say a single word to counter the openly racistic shouts of that jerk. And when I reminded him of this, he just told me that I should "defend" myself. How can one "defend" against racist shouts, other than what I'm doing right now? May be inim knows something beyond by imagination. If so, all fibsters would be delighted to know inim's counter-racism devices, but I hope that shouting another kind of racistic slogans, targetting the starter's ethnic roots will not be among them.

IMO, there is only one reason that why we see jerks like Im_not_gimmeluck shouts openly racistic slogans in public: that they feel "secure". In other words, as there has been no warning or punishment from the adminstration, they don't bother abstaining from showing their sick personality to others and making the FIBS a snakepit.

Though I frankly applaud Patti for dedicating several hours a day to maintain FIBS as an unpaid job, yet I personally think that it's time to go for the next target to cleaning FIBS of trashes and garbages: "racists" and "villains", as it's officially stated.

But if so, it must be clearly stated that FIBS's adminstration doesn't care about racism and rude language. Then everybody can face jerks with his/her own ways.

Firstly, "I didn't knew" is incorrect. So instead of mocking others because of their faults, try to improve your English.

Secondly, that would be my honor to be called Don's friend, so guess how much I'd be delighted to be called his brother. Don is a real gentleman and a respectable feagure in FIBS.

Thirdly, gagging you in FIBS doesn't mean that I like to start another episode of our personal dogfight here. Hi Patti and thanks for your attention.

Frankly speaking, I'm in no position to "provide specific implementation details", which should have been done long time ago, but as a novice fibster, I'd sugget that:

1- To provide a comprehensive "FIBS behavioural code" and make it public to all the fibsters and wannbe-fibsters via posting it at fibs.com

2- To appoint some of your reliable friends and experiendced fibsters as your "eyes and ears", as you seem to be often too busy maintaining the website and related stuff. These people will be responsible for gathering evidences, making files for the violators and then reporting to you. Also this can be done by asking fibsters to provide their evidences by posting them here at FIBSboard, though it might be a bit difficult.

3- To send a warning to those jerks who violate FIBS behavioural code on a regular basis, and giving them ultimatum to stop being jerks.

and If they keep being racist or villain, after 3 warnings:

4- To delete their accounts.


This is what I think might work to make FIBS what it should be: a nice play to play BG and to have fun.

PersianLord, I strongly suggest that you use gag and blind commands  or even better, a client that has implemented permagag (i.e. you don't have to do a gag <player> each time you or <player> logs in). Some "history" about policeing fibs, if you have time to read http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.backgammon/search?group=rec.games.backgammon&q=gag+blind+offensive. Or you may want to do a search there for any subjects related to earlier times of FIBS.

You got it wrong. I NEVER promoted my stance on that subjetc in PULIC (=shouts). I just discussed with inim almost 40 days ago and we were discussing on some issues. Then inim, unfaily made our private chat public in order to raise enmity towards me, while I don't really believe in what inim would like you to think about me.

IMO, people must be regarded as long as they don't promote racism or use abusive language in PUBLIC. But everyone is free to have every opinion on every issue and to discusse it with other fibsters in private chats and/or messages. But in public, all must obey the laws and principles.

I don't think so. Many of the racists and abusers value their virtual identity too much to let their accounts be deleted. Some of them so love to show off their ratings that they just log in and then go to their work or bed, others are so rude that people would nuke them if they log in with a new nick. So when you have a high rating with a 5 digit experience, you surely don't want to see your account deleted. I mean these people have built a "virtual identity" and based on that they act. They need to be known to be heard. Thus, I guess a single threat of deleting their accounts will make most of them behaving normal. A few of them may dare to create new accounts to keep abusing, but believe me that they will find it hard and eventually will give up. Besides, they are just a tiny miniroty of abusers in FIBS and  their absence would not be a loss for the "first internet backgammon server" of the world.

Thank you adrian for the kind response.

But my dear friend, here I made a thread about a problem that is related to the the "whole" community of fibsters not just mine. I surely was insulted, but as you see, in the second quote, there was nothing about me and that guy just was shouting racistic slogans against the Black people.

Definitely I can gag and/or blind the abusers, but I just thought that it's the responsibility of the FIBS adminstration to implement the laws that has been clearly and officialy stated.

There's no way to do this practically anyway as her Pattiness makes abundantly clear. I'd argue it's not desirable either - let the fools shout their rubbish, they just show how stupid racists tend to be. (I've still not decided whether NIHI's racist,  he playacts much of the time anyway, and may well not know himself).

To end on a happier note --- all praise Bob Marley. I grew up in a small English town and didn't even know a non-white till well into secondary school. At 13 I came across Marley's music and credit him for giving me the impetus to see how stupid racism is. I'd have recognised that anyway of course (you can't learn biology without realising humanity one species) but it would have been later.

It was dorbel, dear friend. After inim had succeeded in demonizing me, the day after that, drobel got rude to me and asked me to give my opinion and I tried to answe his questions. If you can provide a single shout from me that is "racistic" or "rude", I will give you all of my 150 NACCI points, lol.

PL, you're naive.  Anyone who had their account deleted would just create a new one with a similar handle, pump their rating up, and go right back to where they were.  I've dealt with similar situations many times, and I've never seen anyone go, "OK, you're right, I won't do that anymore", and then stick to it.

Besides, you haven't told me *how* you expect this all to happen.
