Sport Relief
http://www.sportrelief.com
is a British fund raiser, raising money for valuable small scale relief projects in the third world. While many British sportsmen, women and children will be out and about running, jumping, swimming and otherwise disporting themselves to attract sponsorship, I will be adopting a somewhat more sedentary posture and playing backgammon! Starting at 0800 UTC on March 19th, I will attempt a backgammon marathon, to whit 24 hours of continuous play on fibs, with the aim of completing a target of 300 one point matches in the time and more importantly, attracting sponsorship from fibsters!
None of the money donated will be passing through my notoriously sticky fingers, as you pledge your sponsorship online at
http://www.mysportrelief.com/backgammon
Do it today please, I aim to raise £1,000 with this, but I'm not going to raise anything without your help, so go there now! A promise of as little as a penny a game is a help and will improve the quality of life for people who have very little of the things that we take for granted.

.....and a fourth sponsor and a fifth, thank you maria and thank you anonymous! By going to
http://www.mysportrelief.com/backgammon
you can make an immediate donation of a fixed sum according to your means, no matter how small! However, if you would prefer to link your donation to the number of games that I actually play during the marathon, or the number that I win (could be interesting) or the number of hours that I play, then that is fine too. Make your pledge here on fibsboard and make the actual payment after the marathon is complete. Note too that I will need some willing bodies, ideally not phone users with bad connections, to actually play the games, so volunteers very welcome!

If you go to
http://www.mysportrelief.com/backgammon
you will see that we are now 11% of the way towards the target of £1,000. Thank you very much for these extremely generous donations! Those of who haven't already done so are invited to help us today, no amount being too small, or even too large. Those of you who would like to tie their donation to the actual achievement of the marathon are more than welcome to pledge an amount per game here and donate after the event of course. Good on you all.

After an initial burst of enthusiasm, donations have slowed a bit, but we have already raised £130, so a big THANK YOU to those very generous donors. However, our target is £1,000 so there is some ground to make up before March 19th. If you haven't already done so, please go to
http://www.mysportrelief.com/backgammon
, where you can see some of the micro projects planned for this money, that will be assisting seriously disadvantaged people all over the world. There too, you can donate directly online and even a small donation will be very gratefully received. You can also come back to this page and make a promise to send a donation after the marathon, linked to the number of games played or the number won perhaps! Please take part in this, it is money very well spent.

Well now we are up to 18% of the £1,000 target, after a whopping donation from James Allen all the way from Nevada, thank you James! You can join him on
http://www.mysportrelief.com/backgammon
and I hope to see lots of you online on Friday March 19th to play some one pointers and keep me awake.

I'm in for 5p per win. Double stakes for every one-pointer you win against me.
See you on FIBS on the 19th.

Thank you clem and a big thank you to my three overnight sponsors, two of whom are Americans that I have never met! How nice is that? This is money that will make a difference to lives that we would hardly consider worth living, so I hope you feel a nice warm glow! Now we are up to 25% of the target £1,000, with promises of more, so with any luck, we'll make it.

Not long to go now, with the marathon set to start on Friday 19th at 0800 UTC. Thats early evening in Australia so if some "fair dinkum cobbers" as I believe they like to be called would be on hand to get me started on the trail, I would be very grateful Those of you are just dying to help with contributions, please go NOW to
http://www.mysportrelief.com/backgammon
where you can donate online. Promises to pay after the marathon is complete may make their pledges right here.
It's a great chance to help people who lead severely disadvantaged lives, so come on fibsters, dig deep!

So, 0800 UTC march 19th, 24 hours of non stop one point matches for Sport Relief! It will all be worth it if you go now to
http://www.mysportrelief.com/backgammon
and make a small donation to this excellent cause and/or if you make a promise on this board to make a contribution related to the number of games that I can play in the time or the number that I can win and/or if you just turn up and play some games against me during the 24 hours after 0800 UTC. Shouts are still disabled, but tells messages and kibitzes still work, so please donate, please play. Thanks!
look for the nick SPORT_RELIEF, see you there.
