In this topic, we whiners are going to post positions where either we've gotten an extremely unlucky roll or our damned opponents have gotten an extremely lucky one. After a week, we may run a poll to decide which of us whiners was the unluckiest and has creditd to be called the 'whiner of the week' title.

By taking part in this topic, we're NOT going to claim that FIBS dices are rigged or a software is monitoring the matches or so on. We just want to share our miseries here as a means of consolation.

Well, let's begin it myself as I'm a great whiner. thumbsup

This position is taken from my 2-pt match against resh_lakish. As you see, I had hit 4 of his men and considering my 5-pt board, I should have had no problem winning this match. According to GNUBG, my equity and MWC/GWC was:

       Eq.:  +0.835

        91.8%  79.1%  14.1% -   8.2%   1.8%   0.1%

And guess what happened? resh rolled a 5-5 and went on to claim the victory:

Well you had not toggled crawford and I noticed that and re-doubled to make even more fun. Wink

Hi PL,

your opponents winning chances before his 55 roll were still above 30%. Winning that match when having more than 30% winning chances IMHO does not justify whining. I'd start to whine when my oppoents wins with less than 5%.

I don't mind what was the winning chances of my opponent, he just got a very lucky roll and I thought it deserves to be posted here. And as the GNUBG's analysis clearly shows, my opp was way lucky which helped him win the match.

You bots, you! Don't you know that whiners neither know nor care about percentages!? More accurately, a whine-worthy event is subjective. Never mind that the opponent could have won 30% of the games in a longer span of moves, the point about PersianLord's position is that the swing was large and sudden with a corresponding feeling of dismay at seeing the intended victims escape. Posting these positions is also good for preventing psychological problems, as well. (hi vic and zwaii)

Yeah, really. Percentages have nothing to do with a good whine. My favorite is when an opponent rolls 4/5th of the match like he invented dice, then I escape with one well placed roll on a high cubed game, and he/she goes off about my lucky dice. Of course, the inverse is not true, and the person who does that to me is a lucky bastard who didn't deserve to win.

And then there are the bots. I'm up 4-2 in a 5 pointer. Crawford game. Parlorbot gets 2 of my pieces on the bar, and begins to bearoff, rolling 4 sets of doubles while my dice, which must have had all numbers higher than '2' erased, cause me dance until I am backgammoned, with 1 piece still on the bar. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, so I puked instead.

There. I feel better now. This is a good forum.

Hey!! I never actually win by showing skill either! I always made some bad moves in midgame which were rewarded by great rolls to cover them in bearoff.
Next time avoid being "barred" by a bot, that is a well known trap used by all the bots, and only noobs like you can fall for it.  For the unsuspecting, joyfull and open hearted fibster it may appear that they blunder ,BUT!!!.. NOOOO , in fact, they actually forsee all our rolls.
