Title: Playing Preferences Instead of E-Mail
Post by: grapelli on April 28, 2005, 04:58:04 PM
Hi and gl,

when I saw the mail address "3-5ptm_fast@..." in the player window of JavaFibs I thought it would be a good idea to have playing preferences shown instead of or AS a mail address. Do you think this is a good idea?

Well, no.  I change my mind a lot.   :P  Lots of players post messages there instead, tho.  You could post that instead if you want.   ;)

I cant say I ever pay attention to the email addresses - so by all means use it to spell out your preferences (if you really do only ever want to play the same kind of match  :D ), but be aware - not everyone will notice it.

Hi,all.
hmmm that email address seems familiar to me.  :D
And it's true that for all I know from invitations I've got, not many people seem to notice my play preference.
I did that because i like to know something more than just a nickname of my opponent (even questionable ones like 'greenland').
So I think it's better to write something of yourself or some message to your profile or emailaddress than nothing.

Hi again,

and thanks for posting. As far as I can see now, there is not really the need for playing preferences in the Fibs player window, because you can add a costumizable button which will do the work (at least in JavaFibs, I'll try that). Most people will not look at the E-Mail address anyway.

At first I thought it would be a good idea, knowing it from the GamesGrid client, but on Fibs people mostly play 1-7 points anyway, no money game, no nackgammon and so on.

Well, it's a pity to have such an empty column in the player window. I still think you could do something more useful with that then writing "hatred.rules" and the like.

Thanks anyway, especially to morry!
