Seems to me we should use our 6 to make another home board point with 7/1.  What then to do with the 2?  I vote for 8/6, to give us maximum flexibility from our spare outfield points.  8/6, 7/1

Running with 18/10 exposes us to a triple shot against a four point board. Nah.

That means we're going to wait out the holding game, so let's try to conserve sixes so that we can avoid the forced break for as long as possible. 9/1 seems to do the conservation as well as any other, and it makes a homeboard point too.  10/8 7/1 also works, and I could easily be persuaded to do that instead.

What we don't want to do is move two checkers into the homeboard.  Save those sixes!

According to gnu 0-ply, the Herd picked the best move.  The runner-up (9/1) is very close, almost within the margin of error. 

Actually, it's hard to go too far wrong here no matter you do as long as you don't play off the 18 (analysis gives a .7 error) or touch any of the homeboard checkers.
