Congrats to don for becoming the first to win two "Sunday Specials" in this only our seventh tournament  :thumbsup2: .. an extra pitcher of Bloody Mary's to you, amigo

a second record was set as the total playing time was the shortest yet, at 1:01 .. well done to all 19 players .. but this was most likely because 11 of the 18 matches resulted in a shutout and in only two matches did the loser win more than 1 point .. regardless, your TD appreciated it   :yes:

Big Dogs Bite the Dust

In a field of 29 players, the largest for a "Sunday Special" to date, with 6 players rated over 1700, it was the underdogs day .. gold_eagle (1549),  #17 seed, joins the short list of players winning the pitcher of Bloody Marys in his first "Sunday Special" defeating kleine_meid (1447), #27 seed, in her first appearance in the finals 

Along the way, gold_eagle defeated the #1 seed, Zorba (1933), in a third round match 4-2 .. meanwhile, #28 seed, rosewater (1438), upset the #2 seed Backwoods (1821), in round 1 by a score of 3-2 .. in round one, #12 seed, Admire (1616) defeated #3 seed, sixty_something (1804) 3-1 .. of the top ten seeds, only Zorba and onion (1641), the #1 and #10 seeds, remained to challenge by round three .. overall, underdogs won 16 of the 28 matches played .. considering the average rating of the top ten seeds was 1737.2, this was no easy task .. the underdogs took the bone on this day -well done, all  :thumbsup2:

Another Two Time Winner

In a field of 24 players the favorites took control dominating across the board winning 16 of the 23 matches .. moyang (1733),  #3 seed, won a pitcher of Bloody Marys for the second time defeating #1 seed, don (1787), in the finals .. this is the first time two top seeds have met in the finals .. moyang and don also now become the only two players to win two "Sunday Specials"

moyang (1733) defeated #7 RickrInSF (1659) 3-2, #12 sixty (1602) 6-1, #8 PHunter (1641) 6-0, and #19 Feklhr (1498) 5-1 to reach the finals .. don (1787) defeated #24 rossa (1460) 3-0, #6 Aldus (1676) 4-1, #11 adrian (1612) 7-2, and #13 manxcat (1592) 5-0 in his quest for a "Sunday Special" three-peat

RickrInSF Smokes the Field

#13 seed, RickrInSF (1616), defeated #3 seed, sixty_something (1792), 5-3 in the finals .. the win was RickrInSF's first in a "Sunday Special" and my third second-place finish .. the field of players was only 17 today with an average FIBS rating of 1652.9 one of the lowest since "Sunday Specials" began back in September as several regulars just missed the registration deadline

regardless, the win was just as sweet for RickrInSF (1616) who managed wins against two other surviving top seeds with wins against #6 seed, donzabackgame (1673), and #7 seed, socksey (1662), after a forfeit in his first match when resh_lakish failed to return from a traditional tourney starting "smoke break"

A "special" thanks to don for creating a nice supplement to RepBot that makes reporting these results much easier in the seeded order format i've adopted :cool:

the top seeds were knocked out in rounds 1 and 2 by #5 seed, nixo (1681), and #10 seed, manxcat (1635) .. nixo beat manxcat in the semi-finals with the cube at 128 (somebody must have put extra juice in their Bloody Marys) .. in a hard fought final, #6 seed, Aldus (1667), defeated nixo

The Monk Takes the Cup

in a large and strong field with five previous "Sunday Special" winners, r_monk wins his first Bloody Mary pitcher .. 27 players entered, four with 1800+ ratings (the second time that's happened) .. the average player rating of 1637.4 was the second highest since "Sunday Specials" began back in September .. while favorites won 15 of the 26 matches, the top seeds were all knocked out early again .. only number one seed Zorba (1906) survived to round 3 .. of the top ten seeds only r_monk and Zorba were not eliminated in their first or second match

with the cube at 4 in a hard fought final, #6 r_monk (1752) defeated #11 saukriver (1649) 12-1 via a gracious resign at backgammon by runner-up saukriver in a long game that had several swings
