Bloody Mary "Sunday Special" Season II

Season II of the Bloody Mary "Sunday Special" started on May 18, 2008. A Bloody Mary season is at least thirty-two weeks in length with a season championship held at the end of each season. Thirty-two (32) winners of weekly tournaments are invited to participate with winners of two or more weekly events during a season receiving two invitations to the season championship. Winners of three or more in a single season win bragging rights, for now. In future championships winners of three or more will win a round one bye, but we are awaiting implementation of that feature in TourneyBot. The season ends when two 16-player winners brackets are filled with 32 eligible winners.

During Season II we had several weeks where no winner was identified due to a variety of reasons. After careful checking or TourneyBot records, OogaBot, or shout logs winners have been found for all but two potential Bloody Mary dates, 25-May and 8-Jun. I am continuing to attempt to identify those missing winners, if any. Season II will be extended until a full 32 eligible winners have been identified.

Bloody Mary "Sunday Special" Season II Championship

sunray wins a record fourth Bloody Mary

Now, all 32 positions are filled for the Bloody Mary "Sunday Special" Season II Championship tournament. With four wins, sunray will be eligible for two first round byes. Thanks to Tom's excellent work with TourneyBot, I should be able to set up the two winners brackets in such a way to guarantee at least one of those first round byes. If not, sunray clearly has won bragging rights and a place in the Bloody Mary record book as the first four time winner during a single season. With his one win in our first season, sunray also now holds the overall lead in total Bloody Mary wins with five. So, a big CONGRATS to you, sunray.

Invitations with TourneyBot tourney numbers will be sent to eligible winners via FIBS messages later this week. Play in the Season II championship series will begin in the 3rd or 4th week of January 2009 - stay tuned here for details.

Season II consists of 34 weeks with 24 players representing 30 verified winners eligible as entrants into the championship series. Additionally, I have awarded two special exemptions to manxcat and don for their extraordinary help as substitute TD's during Season II (see Bloody Mary Hosts Honor Roll).

Bloody Mary "Sunday Special" Season II Championship Brackets

TourneyBot will advise you of your pairing each time you log in and annoy you a little with clock messages. Players will be expected to schedule their own matches and complete each round within 7-10 days. You are encouraged to play your early rounds as quickly as possible. I will try to warn you once at 7 days, but TourneyBot will automatically award the match, if necessary, after 10 days. Exactly how TourneyBot determines an awarded match is not completely clear to me, but I trust Tom and TourneyBot to do it fairly. If awarded, the decision is final.

On the completion of each match, TourneyBot will then assign your next pairing. Once a bracket is started, details can be provided, as necessary, by using TELL TOURNEYBOT MATCHES 278x or TELL TOURNEYBOT CURRENT 278x. Should TourneyBot be down, you may play your match anyway and report results to me.

The Alpha and Beta Brackets below are single-elimination brackets with 5 point matches and a 7 point final. Winners of the two brackets will faceoff in a 9 point double-elimination finals to be scheduled on some Sunday and run concurrently with our regular Bloody Mary tourneys.

The remaining seed order is preset based on number of wins this season then players current ratings. As the defending BMSC champion, pck, received a bonus entry putting him in the 2 time winner category for seeding purposes; manxcat also won one regular weekly tourney which with her bonus entry as Mega-Sub also makes her a two time winner. The eligible player lists below are in seed order. The Start

The Alpha bracket started on 12-Feb when it filled. The Beta bracket on Valentine's Day as planned.

Players are expected to schedule their own matches and complete each round within 7-10 days. You are encouraged to play your early rounds as quickly as possible. These are single elimination brackets. If you lose, you are eliminated from the Season II Championship. The FINALS will be double elimination with all 7-point matches. Joyce, the #16 seed in the Alpha bracket, advances to the Finals defeating defending champion pck. The other finalist will be the winner of the Beta Bracket, either socksey or jdg.

The BMSC II finals will be a 7-point Double Elimination event to be held in parallel with our regularly scheduled weekly tournament, hopefully next week. (If next week, we will NOT have a "Re-Entry Special" -- that could get a little confusing)

Top Seed, jdg, Makes Finals Defeating socksey

In a close one, jdg, #2 seed overall, defeated socksey, 8-5, to make the Season II Championship Finals. Joyce, the #32 seed overall, advances to the Finals defeating defending champion pck. Joyce's road to the finals has been a challenging one to which she has responded well. She has defeated three 1800+ players along the way and now faces jdg in a best two out of three double elimination. Currently jdg is rated at 1911 after another Bloody Mary weekly win today, his third in three weeks.

The BMSC II finals will be a 7-point Double Elimination event hopefully to be held in parallel with our regularly scheduled weekly tournament next week or at a time arranged by both players when either socksey or me can be there to moderate and announce the results.
