TPR 2011 Player of the Year -- PREVIEW

Is that the sound of a fat lady warming up her singing voice? Some say it ain't over until the fat lady sings, but socksey is now putting substantial distance between herself and other challengers for the 2011 TPR Player of the Year (POY). Playing in 13 of the 18 tourneys in TPR Week 45, Cigale and socksey finished # 1 and #2 for Player of the Week with Cigale finishing 18 points ahead of socksey. With his performance, Cigale has moved ahead of the still idle vegas_vic into third place in the POY race, 166 points behind socksey.

With only 7 weeks to go in the TPR season, Cigale will need to average at least 24 points a week better than socksey to over take her. That's a tall order, but doable. Perfect_Celle remains in second place (46 points behind socksey), but failed to earn sufficient points in Week 45 (9 or more) to make the Top 32 list. Thus, Celle gets a goose egg for the week in this PREVIEW. His actual "official" total will include points for all tourneys he entered. That's why these totals are called PRELIMINARY.

Still in the running for a podium finish is aviator. The fly boy continues to play regularly (9 of 18 tourneys last week), but lost ground to socksey last week. For aviator over-coming socksey, who now leads him 221 points, for first place will be difficult.

November and December may yet be exciting for these competitors. If Perfect_Celle and vegas_vic resume regular play soon, they are each within closing distance of a final charge on first place, but they'd better hurry. Another week or two of zeroes as socksey continues to rack up points will knock them out of any hope for a first place finish.

With seven (7) weeks remaining until the 2011 TPR Player of the Year race is decided, anything can happen, but the smart money is moving toward betting heavy on the Oklahoma filly.

TPR 2011 Player of the Year -- PREVIEW

Continuing to pull away from the field, socksey is leaving an Oklahoma dust storm behind her. Challengers for the 2011 TPR Player of the Year (POY) are facing a tough go in order to catch her. Playing in 10 of the 16 tourneys in TPR Week 46, socksey finished # 2 after resh won TPR Player of the Week (POW) with a Bloody Mary win on Sunday. Cigale finished in third in the POW race, 8 points behind socksey. With his performance, Cigale has now pulled 33 points ahead of vegas_vic into third place in the POY race, but is 175 points behind socksey in first, and 94 points behind Perfect_Celle in second.

Now, with only 6 weeks to go in the TPR season, Cigale needs to average at least 29 points a week better than socksey to over take her, vegas_vic must gain an average of 30. It is still a tall order, but still doable. Perfect_Celle racked up 12 TPR points in Week 46 and remains in second place (now 80 points behind socksey).

Continuing to climb ahead with an outside chance for a podium finish is aviator. Playing in 9 of 16 tourneys in TPR Week 46, he lost ground to socksey and Cigale last week. but gained on Perfect_Celle and vegas_vic.

With Perfect_Celle and vegas_vic resuming play, they are each still within closing distance of a final charge on first place. However, socksey shows no sign of tiring. With six (6) weeks remaining until the 2011 TPR Player of the Year race, unless she stumbles or becomes distracted by some Oklahoma stud, the Oklahoma filly is looking good for a stroll into the winner's circle.

TPR Player of the Month -- November 2011 -- FINAL TOTALS (Preliminary)

A belated congrats to socksey for running away with the November Player of the Month (POM) honors. With that performance she secured an insurmountable lead for TPR Player of the Year as well.

The TPR tournament month of November ended on Sunday, 04-Dec. These totals are derived from the FINAL weekly totals for the four weeks of the TPR tournament month of November (Weeks 45, 46, 47 and 48) as published here at FIBSboard. While there may be discrepancies of a few points with the "official" final totals, these PRELIMINARY totals will be very close when the composite spreadsheet is updated with full results for all players. But that may take a while, as I am having problems completing the year to date or composite spreadsheet. The size has just become unmanageable.

TPR 2011 Player of the Year -- TOP 5 Finishers

By setting a pace that no one could match, socksey dominated the last two months of TPR play pulling away from the field with a 276 point lead. Congrats to socksey for winning our first TPR Player of the Year honors. The Top 5 Challengers for the 2011 TPR Player of the Year (POY) remained the same, but the race was very close with less than 50 points separating 2nd place finisher, Cigale, and aviator in 5th place.

With wins in week 49 and Week 50, Cigale pulled ahead Perfect_Celle into second place in the POY race.  Perfect_Celle held on to third place. vegas_vic and aviator finished strong, with only 7 points between them for fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Congrats to these excellent tourney players for a great year.

Here are the totals for the TPR "tournament year" 2011 for the NEXT 64 tournament players (65-128) by total TPR points.

While these numbers are much more a function of tournament participation than anything else, the lists are excellent indicators of active FIBSters. Regular tournament play is an excellent way for us to stay involved and connected as an extended community.

BTW, during 2011 we had 434 unique nicknames register and play in tournaments covered by our TPR rankings.

TPR PLAYER OF THE YEAR -- FINAL TOTALS
2011
03-Jan-11 to 01-Jan-2012 (Week 1 to Week 52)

At long last, here are the FINAL totals for the TPR "tournament year" 2011. The top 32 tournament players by total TPR points are listed below along with other player metrics collected from TPR tournaments.

The spreadsheet from which these numbers are derived has been carefully validated by weekly and monthly checksums to ensure accuracy. A few name errors have also been corrected. Those errors were generally from Challonge player names not matching FIBS nicknames.

Variances occur with previously published "preliminary" totals used for Player of the Month for the past few months. In all cases, such differences are increases from points earned by players who did not appear in the weekly Top 32 lists which were the source of those preliminary totals. For players frequently in the Top 32 each week. such as socksey and aviator, their preliminary totals were unchanged. On average changes were about 20 points. For most players, changes were less than 30 points. For a few cases where players consistently entered tourneys, but seldom played in enough to make the weekly top 32 list, changes ranged from 40 or 60 points.

Regardless, these are the FINAL totals for 2011. As time permits, other lists and summaries for 2011 will be posted in this thread including some interesting looks at player performance and overall tournament metrics.

NEW SORT FEATURE

Some of you may have noticed that by clicking on the column heading in published tables sorting is enabled, ascending then descending. Until now that feature was dysfunctional because I had opted for readability over utility. In case you haven't tried it, making tables like these presentable is not as straightforward as you'd expect.

Regardless, I've now found the key to keeping the tables readable and fully sortable. For the new FINAL results tables, the column sort feature is now fully enabled. Give it a try. This feature will also be included in all future tables with 2011 metrics. As time passes, it will also appear in 2012 Player of the Week data and other 2012 summary tables.
