I don't think even the exalted UN panel on climate change saw this one coming...... ( with apologies to dorbel for the cut and paste job from the dreaded Fox News )

A California congresswoman warns global warming will be so detrimental to poor women, it will drive them to prostitution.

Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., has re-introduced legislation that forces the government to address all "policies and programs in the United States that are globally related to climate change" through the lens of gender.

Her resolution, "Recognizing the disparate impact of climate change on women and the efforts of women globally to address climate change," asserts that long term and catastrophic weather changes will result in drought and destructive weather events such as flooding, which could lead to food shortages, joblessness and disease, along with economic and political crisis on a regional scale.

Since "women will disproportionately face harmful impacts from climate change, particularly in poor and developing nations where women regularly assume increased responsibility for growing the family's food and collecting water, fuel, and other resources," the measure reads, they will be the most desperate and vulnerable, forced into situations,"such as sex work, transactional sex, and early marriage."

If the future indeed has this in store for women, perhaps the UN should reinstate the disgraced head of its intergovernmental panel on climate change.

Rajendra K. Pachauri, whose 13 years as chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change had made him one of the world's most important voices on the risks of global warming resigned after allegations of sexual harassment were filed against him in India, where he lives and works. He had been scheduled to leave the post in October, but tendered his resignation early after news that a woman employed at an institute that he heads in India had accused him of unwanted text messages, emails and other contact.

Lawyers for Dr. Pachauri, 74, have said in court filings that his computer and phone were hacked and that the unwanted messages were sent by someone else to make him look bad.

Here's a guy with expertise in global warming and abuse of women, so the UN would really get a bang for its buck by re-hiring him. Course you gotta wonder why a guy so impeccably credentialed in these two areas never saw Congresswoman Lee's disaster coming.
