Welcome To The Brand New FIBS Team League!

WHAT IS IT?

This is a new FIBS Team League. Everyone is welcome to play, have fun and enjoy themselves. The first Season will begin March 1, 2005, and run through April 30, 2005.

PRE-SEASON: REGISTRATION

The most important thing to do is to form a team!

Each team consists of three Players. (If you need help finding other players to form a team, send an email to fibs.team.league (at) gmail.com and we'll help you find each other!)

Choose a Team Name. This can be anything you want, with a maximum of 50 characters.

Decide who will be Player #1, Player #2 and Player #3 for your team. Player Positions will remain fixed throughout the Season.

Decide who will be Team Captain. The Team Captain is responsible for registering, and communication on behalf of your team.

To register your team, send an email to fibs.team.league (at) gmail.com.  Assume your email has not been received until you have received a reply in return. Include the following information in your email:
• Team Name
• Team Captain

For each Player on the Team, include the following information:
• FIBS login
• Player Position (Player #1, Player #2 or Player #3).
• Contact Email Address (NOTE: Email addresses will NOT be published on any public website).
• Time Zone
• Country

SEASON: GENERAL RULES

Each Player will play every other Player of the same Position, e. g. every Player #1 will play every other Player #1, every Player #2 will play every other Player #2, and -- you guessed it -- every Player #3 will play every other Player #3!

If the number of participating teams is too great, the league may be split into multiple divisions. If there is more than one divison, there will be playoff Matches at the end of the Season between the winners of each Division to determine who the winner of the Season is.

All Matches will be 5 points.

SEASON: SCHEDULING MATCHES

Each Player is responsible for scheduling his/her own Matches.

Contact your opponents early.

Contacting your opponents should primarily be done by e-mail. Do not rely on FIBS messages or chats.

If contacting your opponent proves impossible, have your Captain contact the Captain of his or her Team.

If your opponent doesn't respond to your email within one week, send another and cc fibs.team.league (at) gmail.com

If there is no reply before the end of the Season, a ruling will be made by the Committee as to whether a sufficient, demonstrable (note that this specifically means cc'ing the Committee email address! ) effort was made to schedule the Match, and award the Match accordingly.

Nobody will get any points in the event that neither Player has sent any email cc'ing the Committee.

SEASON: REPORTING MATCH RESULTS

After each Match has been played, the losing Player posts the result, and the winning Player confirms it.

If there is any problem, confusion or issue, reports should be made to Team Captains immedately.

Post and Confirm Match results promptly. Do not wait after you have played a Match to report the result.

Remember to save Match logs in case of disputes.

POST-SEASON: SCORING AND RANKINGS

For each Team Matchup, the winning Team will receive 3 Team Points. The losing Team will receive 1 Team Point.

Each Team will also receive Match Points equal to the number of single Matches won by all three Players.

Teams will be ranked according to Team Points. In the case of tie, the tie will be broken by Match Points. In the case of a second tie, the outcome will be decided by the outcome of the League Match between the two tied Teams.

POST-SEASON: DISPUTE RESOLUTION

Each Season, there will be an election for a Dispute Resolution Committee, in which every participating player will have one vote.

Any Player who does not wish to serve on this Committee may have their name removed from the Election Ballot.

The top three vote receivers will be duly elected to serve as Dispute Resolution Committee Judges.

The 4th and 5th place vote receivers will serve as Dispute Resolution Committee Alternates, in the event that a Committee Member cannot serve, or is a player on a Team involved in a dispute.

No two Committee Members may come from the same Team.

In the event of a dispute between Teams, the two affected Team Captains will make their case via email to the Committee. The Committee will weigh the opposing claims, along with any supplementary evidence (Match transcripts, cc'd emails, etc. ) and produce a final and unappealable verdict.

The Dispute Resolution Committee shall provide the public at large with articulate reasoning for their ruling.

POST-SEASON: ONCE IT'S ALL OVER

Cry! Your team probably lost! Ha! Ha! Ha! Just kidding. Mmmmmm, sorta.

Pull yourself together. It's time to get ready for the next Season!

After each Season, there will be a one week window for the submission of proposed rules changes. Any player who played the Season just ended and will be playing in the upcoming Season may submit proposed rules changes.

Each proposed change will be voted on by all Players carrying over to the next Season. Only Players who played in the previous Season and will be playing in the upcoming Season will be allowed to vote on proposed rule changes.

Examples of rules changes that have already been proposed include changing from 5 point Matches to 7 point Matches, changes in how rankings are allocated, etc.

Please note that to make the first Season as confusion-free as possible, there will be no rules modifications until Season II.
