I played TMG, actually at GammonEmpire and recently have been contacted by Play65.com where the software is the same as GammonEmpire.

There is real good freeroll tourneys at TMG.

I like very much the software at GammonEmpire and play65 and if you want playing real money, it seems to be a great site.

You can play also for free on these servers but what is missing is some kind of communty that we can found here at FIBS.
No way to chat there, you just have to play ;-)

Here my post about play65.com
if you want to test it

If you are looking for both a community based backgammon site and one where you can play for free or for money, check out Club Games Backgammon

They have cool features like all of your matches are analyzed and displayed in HTML for you in your profile:

Here is one on my analyzed matches:

http://www.clubgames.com/games/backgammon/...o?gameId=239310

You can also create a club and you get your own lobby and tournament software, you can run free and money events.

By the way, my name is Jesse, and I am part of the software development team (http://www.p2pgames.com) that built the Club Games platform.

hi jesse.
I know ClubGames and find it very good.
I am playing some times there and enjoy it very much.
What is it needed most there is more people. I think those free tourneys where you can get some cash is a good way to bring there new people if they are curious enough and I am sure that some would stay because of the quality of Clubgames.

I tried to organize one tourney for fibsters, but Fibsters seem not interested  :(
Too bad cause this site is really new and different in my mind from all others you can find on the net.

I really like Fibs for all that is done by the side
But my second choice would be ClubGames for sur.
And the team seems to be there very helpfull and worry about remarks and comments to improve it.

Hope to play you there one time....

Hey a question relating to this.

How often to people make money playing backgammon for money?

I know that there are people that make a living playing poker, and it is common, but it is the same with backgammon?

Yes, there are loads of professional backgammon players (and i am NOT one of them ;) )

There are loads of professional bg players but the bulk of the action here, not in terms of the number of players but in terms of the value of the bets, remains as with the real pro poker players face to face.

There are many people who are playing backgammon for money.....But love this!!!

Onlinebackgammonmoney

Many people play online for some serious money. I think that if some there are some regulation changes over at the US guys online backgammon (as well as any online gambling industry) will see a serious boom.

TMG was also a great site to play at. It had the approach of lets say PokerStars, but for backgammon. They were the only one to offer rakeback as far as I know, which was great for any backgammon player. Too bad they dropped out of the game, other sites have emerged and are developing well, but nobody wants to be the leader and start the changes that are needed for online backgammon:
-Targeting fishes
-Lower rake or rakeback
-Big guaranteed tournaments

I would never play online for money, because:

a) I'm not good enough: and more importantly,

b) I couldn't be sure that my opponent wasn't using some aid (see thread about bots)

Garp

Onlinebackgammonmoney

Would you play if you know that you specific opponent is not using software aid and is bad?

Because I am in front of a moral dilemma. I always record my play online and analyze it afterwards. So I make a list of player that are good(may be using software aid dunno, that's why I asked at this thread  http://www.fibsboard.com/money-play/how-to-spot-anyone-using-a-bot-or-software-aid/) and players that are really bad (huge blunders are made, you cannot be so stupid and win long term really). But I am not sure whether I should post or don't post such a list and what the consequences could be (from sites, players that are on the list etc.)

Can't you just infer who's good and who's not from their rating?  If a player is a fencepost, you can be pretty sure they're going to make a lot of errors.  Seems like your list would be pretty redundant.

Onlinebackgammonmoney

Well not all online backgammon site have rating systems. Some do have, but others players aren't allowed to see your rating. This is the case over at CasinoRIP (you can take a look at that site if you want in my signature).

The problem with ratings is that it can be manipulated. Play low stakes game and lose on purpose. Play higher stakes on your usual level. This way you can fool people that you are weak and they will have to play some vs you to actually understand your real level.
So the list that I have will be quite quite useful.

The problem is about privacy. Will sites actually care about such a list? What if a player sees his nickname on this list?

It is a little bit like over at poker with Pokertableratings, but here we are talking about such a lower scale.

If there are known places on the net with bots, please post links. More information can only help.

Either EVERYBODY can play with a bot, or NOONE can play with a bot. There can be no middle ground.

If the play for money sites cannot stop bots, then EVERYBODY should be able to play with a bot.

Onlinebackgammonmoney

Hey guys. Just to let you know that I released the list with weak and strong (potentially bot users) backgammon players on my site - http://www.onlinebackgammonmoney.com

You can get it when you subscribe on the right sidebar.

Slow_Hand

I am not too worried about bots and computer aids (play blitz mode) . Not even the huge rakes are too bothersome. The REAL problem is tring to make a withdrawal. None of the current money sites that I am aware of are trustworthy.

I have been screwed by both GammonEmpire and now BGRoom (why FIBS supports them I will never understand). I will never play another cash site unless it is US regulated.

I see the above advertiser also supports the thieves at BGRoom.

stog

neither Fibs or Fibsboard support either of these sites, nor do we receive any money from them.

we at Fibsboard provide this board for folks to provide info on servers other than Fibs and it would seem by the replies and this poll that most people would suggest you stay well clear of these money sites

Patti

I should note that user Onlinebackgammonmoney is listed as "Doner(sic)/Advertiser".  I'm not sure what that means in practical terms.

yes it will be interesting to see what he says about the money sites -- his signature advertises his site of money site links

We are supported by Advertising here on Fibsboard, as well as Donations.

we do make a small charge/£5 donation for requested commercial signatures and smallads here on Fibsboard, but obviously the content must be bone fide, and if found not to be so, will be removed. (we have only 1 donor/advertiser at present, as most are removed at birth)

i have not much experience of BG money sites and would not personally recommend them, but some folks do use them*, as this poll seems to prove, and any information recommending the better ones is perhaps useful to Fibsboarders, albeit that it has to be correct and updated, as the sites are often bought up, or change
