So the match has started.

It's a 5-pointer.

The dice is generated by gnu.

There's generally two day's voting time in each move. (But I might close the vote sooner if some option gets huge landslide of votes.)

I will make a double poll when the decision is close and also ask double from the expert when it's close.

I will move the most trivial and forced moves.

If votes are even there will be addition day to change votes or new voters to come. If it's still even then I'll flip a coin.

Hopefully this will be fun.  :)

Our first expert is factotum who was second in last FibsLeagammon Masters and has also won League session 38 and is by any standards a very good player.

factotum

how about the all-important issue of posting a graphic board with each move?   i hope this is under control..

I'll post the board as attachment after each move/roll. And you can post your move and comments as quote under it.

I'm sorry. But I just realized the double system that I first thought is flawed and will change optimal decision... So I will make double poll when I think it's close and also ask double from factotum before roll when it's close. Luckily I realized this before the match went longer...

I'm starting late.  It appears that 3 moves into this game, and i'm having a hard time catching up.
The 6-2 i got, then double-hit!  Where was that?  Found the 6-5.  Now someone has their 1 closed?  Can't be forum coming off a double hit, so i'm looking at the board backwards after missing another move?  Whew.

I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue.

You can find moves 2 and factotum's 3rd move as quotes in topic match 1, game 1, move 1...Okei I put factotum's moves in their own topic from now on.

Great idea, an online match! I'm catching up and hope to join the voting and commenting soon :)

I have suggestion for the board snapshot. Right now, I miss the pipcount a lot, and also matchscore and GNUBG PosID would be handy...

If you use GNUBG with seperate windows, select the one with the board. Press Alt-PrtScr to make a snapshot of this window only, to the clipboard. Then you can paste it in your favourite paint program. Save as JPG (you might lower quality settings for smaller filesize).

Here's what it looks like with my set-up, but you can change size, board colour 2D/3D etc. of course.

Besides the pip count, could we also have the match length and score at each play?   B)

"Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. It is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all. The old law of an eye for an eye leaves everybody blind. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding; it seeks to annihilate rather than to convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destroys community and makes brotherhood impossible. It leaves society in monologue rather than dialogue. Violence ends by defeating itself. It creates bitterness in the survivors and brutality in the destroyers." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

I am convinced that those kind of things is the solution and don't think that it is much coding. Is it stog ?

Is it possible to add some kind of button which translate those code into the right form to be used at FibsBoard ?

ok sorted.but only for admin....(if you wrap the above between
and
it will display
unfortunately we cannot allow for all to be able to use this tag for security reasons
sor a keystroke to "screencapture"/crop/upload as jpg and include in post as attachment remains the best option

i am looking into it however....sorted... but unless mr blitzxz wants to change his modus operandi - i see no point a ce moment mais merci pour votre input.......

so to recap 2 choices 1/ using http://apbg.net/bg_diagrams.php and pasting result into  a post between html as described above
or  screencapture/upload......

Tomawaky

I mean those kind of thing "[ table ][ tr ][ td ]a[ /td ][ td ]a[ /td ][ /tr ][ tr ]a[ /tr ][ /table ]"

Do this

aa

a

So if you look deeper in the code below is almost the same way to code
Tomawaky "I feel good da da da da da da da.........i knew that i would now........."

problem is use of html tags is restricted to admin for obvious security reasons.......
i may have been able to assign a temporary permission for whoever was overseeing the forum match - in this case blitzxz - if he wanted but but the work involved in such a mod is not merited when set against the security risks and overall benefits

Match to 7, White leads 6-0 Blue on roll. Cube action?

Hey stog,

By far the easiest way to post positions here including matchscore, pipcount and GNUBG IDs would be to use GNUBG's built-in menu "Edit:Copy as -> GammOnline (HTML)" function and then paste it here.

This was originally added to GNUBG for use on the gammonline forum, but I think it could work here as well. It just relies on board images like the ones you showed above already, stored in the map ../Images/ relative to where the HTML code is.

Here's an example, perhaps you could try to see if you can make it work:

<HTML>
<!-- Score -->

<strong>The score (after 0 games) is: dropper 0, You 0 (match to 3 points)</strong>

<!-- End Score -->

<!-- Header -->

<p><b><a name="game1.move35">Move number 35:</a></b> You on roll, cube decision?</p>

You tell Zorba: did u read my post ?
Zorba says: that's quick
Zorba says: let's see
You tell Zorba: have you looked at the post previous to yours
You tell Zorba: also can you wrap that code in a code box please as it can cause problems thx
Zorba says: yes
Zorba says: but as you were trying the html out, i thought i'd point out an even easier way
You tell Zorba: if all and sundry were able to paste html in a forum we would be in serious security probs
You tell Zorba: only admin can use the html tag
Zorba says: yes i got that
Zorba says: but it might be handy for blitzxz
Zorba says: as he's using gnubg anyway, he could just do copy/paste and be done with it
You tell Zorba: yes i thought that too and have spent the better half of today trying
You tell Zorba: but unless i give him complete access to this server it can't happen
Zorba says: k, i see
Zorba says: i think the other forums using it allow html, but only certain tags... that's how they get around security issues
You tell Zorba: ive looked into setting permissions but it means a complete write up mod which - as wella s being difficult-- is very risky - i could screw up big time
You tell Zorba: i will however keep an eye out for solution which is workable
Zorba says: David, most muslims here aren't fanatics either
Zorba says: oops, ww :)
You tell Zorba: and am trying a hack as we speak but i am in the middle of a new software launch at present so time is like fairydust
You tell Zorba: This will allow the posting of some basic HTML tags:      * <b>, <u>, <i>, <s>, <em>, <ins>, <del>     * <a href="">     * <img src="" alt="" />     * <br />, <hr />     * <pre>, <blockquote>
You tell Zorba: + the button mods added in the posting area
You tell Zorba: sry bit grumpy
You tell Zorba: have put your coode in - looks good
Zorba says: ah..cooll.. well, take it easy, but if you get something that works, cool :)
You tell Zorba: can you ask at the other forums how they got round the html issue if you get a chance and i too will look for the right tag
You tell Zorba: the other solution would be for me to put the visual on a page (not in the forum) perhaps
Zorba says: looks like it works
Zorba says: just the images missing
Zorba says: they use the <img src="" alt="" />  tag
You tell Zorba: and table
Zorba says: and point to a map ../Images on the server
Zorba says: ah ok..yes it uses a table
You tell Zorba: mr wacky's site thingy worked well but the problem is with the full html tag
You tell Zorba: ie admin can use it but noone else
You tell Zorba: with a mac one takes a screen shot with a single keystroke-d'click the image /crop and you are go for upload
Zorba says: yes
Zorba says: alt-prtscr on windows :)
You tell Zorba: can i paste this conversation in the post to avoid my having to tell others - you r the third today :)
Zorba says: sure :)
You tell Zorba: thx

there a few ways round this which i am investigating - but v busy

ok might have a simple solution here :) example-forum-game-april-15-2009 as article

if blitzxz submits the position as an article (has an html button..... the little <> on the right of the editing buttons) which he can update; he need only to put a reference to said article in the post --so folks might be better to view the match in the article, and post their ideas in the board as they have been..........

this might be the best way for this to continue.....

if you want to try this out blitzxz (when u read this) try the http://apbg.net/bg_diagrams.php link first and paste it into an article - )add article is top left of front page)

or zorbie's way whichever suits you

i will need to OK the article but we should be able to allow you to ok future articles automatically

articles are php and as such can be i think better suited for our purpose, they can be submitted by members, and really forum posts are not designed for more complex html posting

You tell Zorba: result i think thx
Zorba says: yes, these other sites used php boards
You tell Zorba: but their gnubg pasteups do not occur in Bulletinboard posting areas

this is exactly what the 'article part' of fibsboard is about.........

ou tell Zorba: id forgotten before
You tell Zorba: and have stupidly wasted hours trying to achieve something which was easily achievable in articles
You tell Zorba: anyhow im pleased we have arrived at a good way forward
You tell Zorba: the forum match is very interesting
You tell Zorba: and this is our first game and it has been truly communally evolutionary in its development

thx all

ps importantcan everyone please ensure if we are quoting code to use the code quotes when posting thx as it can creates crazy hell all over the shop otherwise.....i've just been around all these posts wrapping code in code boxes grrrrrrr :)

Sounds like making things harder to me. The idea in GammOnline exports is that they're easy to use but this won't be easy and pictures used now look also nicer. Also I like that the moves and the comments are in the same place and changing things all the time will make match harder to follow.

stog

no problem whatever is easiest........thx

if others would like to contribute positions using "html" paste, then at least now they know they can do it as an article.......
