  We want to maintain the four-prime and we want to hang on to the midpoint.    Making the one point accomplishes this, and as an added bonus gives us a fourth homeboard point.  What's not to like?

That's not next... Many players would hit here and I was thinking about it too. Propably I would have played the same move though. It's actually quite difficult to know when moves are clear nexts and when players might make big blunders.
