I don't like abandoning the midpoint here, but I think it's almost forced.  We're going to have to clear it anyway, and very likely before he clears the 12 and 11 points.  We can clear it now without leaving a shot, where later we may be forced to leave a double shot. Anyway, playing off the 8 burries checkers and the other options volunteer a double  or triple shot against a strongish board.

I think there's something to be said for clearing the 18 now while his board is weak (well, weaker than it will be soon), but the idea of volunteering a triple shot gives me the willies.
