The weird thing is - sorry to hijack - Vic is allowed to spout his venom in shouts and on here, and others are not!!

garp, to my knowledge, vic has never been "venomous" on FIBSboard .. i'd spank him for that if he were .. at FIBS, Patti has apparently warned vic to moderate some of his behavior, but that is all i know .. while vic can be abrasive and even tiresome at times, i have never seen him be seriously abusive at FIBS .. for me, there is a big difference in that and i can tolerate it

i am missing vic in shouts at FIBS and particularly his participation in tourneys .. while this apology to socksey is just a first step on his road to redemption, whatever that means, in my book, vic is welcome back anytime

Well, I think no venom is more repugnant than yours and you have been allowed to spout it here....now THAT is weired.

Also as sixtie said, I don't think that Vic is 'venomous' in any way. He's just pissed off with the unfair treatment he's been given regarding his dispute with another fibster.

Just crawl back to your hole.

OK, gang, let's tone it down a notch .. quoting offensive shouts from FIBS at FIBSboard is not permitted .. so, i removed the last two posts

i was messaged a lengthy shout exchange involving on of vic's rants that was an over the top personal attack .. i can't remove one and quote another, but it makes be rethink and revisit the whole slimy situation again - someting i have been trying to avoid .. but i rang that bell and can't unring it

we are all adults here and often use adult language in shouts to express the strong emotions that this game and the merciless dice seem to provoke .. add to that volatile mix the stresses and emotions of our real lives and things can get out of control quickly .. emphatic and direct adult language can too easily cross the line .. IMHO, we all need to be more careful and considerate .. i am clueless how to express it any better

for me, words of apology, anger, or attack in shouts are meaningless .. but clearly they can be hurtful to individuals and, worse, hurtful to the spirit of community that FIBS represents .. that is real stuff, real hurt .. backgammon is like real life, FIBS is like real life .. maybe if we had an analysis engine for parsing a string of shouts, we could better see how our passive and/or aggressive behavior effects others and the perception others have of us .. but we don't .. so, perhaps we should just try some adult behavior rather than adult language

for me, i don't find the endless bickering and personal vendettas serve any constructive purpose at all .. maybe toning it down a notch, whatever that means, is a good next step -- maybe not

Why don't you all get a life ?

this was nothing but a public apology to socks , there was no need for anyone to respond to this outside of socksey .

and all i needed from her is i accept .

Dear "Sexist pompous pig!!",

You opened this up to the "public" by making a "public apology", maybe you should learn what public means. You certainly don't seem to realize that shouts are public. You have said a lot of mean and cruel things about socksey after she banned you from tournaments, i think you should apologize for those more than what you apologized for.

And if you don't want public criticism, maybe you should try it in private next time.

sincerely
One of the fibs public.

Vic,
i don't care enough about you to keep your shouts in logs, if you don't remember it's your problem, not mine. I realize that more likely, you just don't know when things you say are mean or cruel, you are pretty dense that way, similar to the way you have no realization of how tiresome your constant whining about dice rolls are.

poor vic, always the victim

It is always a pleasure to read threads that instruct and inform. This one, with its distinctly Fibsian erudition, wit and style reflects enormous credit on its originator and we should all be proud to be part of a forum that produces such a thread. Well done!

Great to see Vic man up for a change.

To Mary In Florida: sorry your old puter has left you in the dust. I build my own, updating regularly and constantly seem to have spares for donation. I have a perfectly good box that I've rehabbed which will do all the things yours cant. Only glitch I see is its a Windows machine.

When i am wrong or an #ss#o## (which i tend to be often) I apologize privately vic. I don/t; feel it necessary to do it in a public forum to try to gain public support/sympathy, as some might...

This is not a comment on anyone's particular actions, behaviour or motivations, but I find that people are known by their actions (not words).  Someone who behaves like an #ss#o## in public, and then apologizes in public for that behaviour, reveals a lot about himself (or herself).  I believe it's a much stronger action to take than a private apology.

Having said that, not being an #ss#o## in the first place is probably a better idea.

apologies that are sincere and heartfelt may be stronger in public, but this apology is none of the sort. This apology is more like a politician who publicly apologizes because he is trying to minimize damage or gain votes, and like the politician, vic's apology has very little to do with socksey and everything to do with vic. His last pathetic attempt is a typical response of a child that tries to deflect guilt from himself by pointing to someone else and saying "but he did it too!" His first attempt at an "apology" was also obviously not sincere, for when socksey said "I'm holding out for a private apology, vic.     You have my number.", he immediately responded with "socksey i have said all i'm going to on this matter". (he later modified the post with it removed)

vic you should reinstate your last icon of the baby, it fit you very well
