Is it possible for dice to be manipulated by either players or administrators?

Just thought I'd ask as have dropped around 70 points in a week and am not playing any differently.

I'm not a novice so expect some peaks and troughs, but getting to the point where it's not enjoyable anymore.

:)

No garp, dice manipulation is not possible. Note that even the bots, who play better than any of us and do it consistently day in, day out, have a rating that varies over a 200 point range, sometimes more. Losing runs are life! If it is any consolation, I have lost 12 matches in a row on fibs on at least two seperate occasions.

There's always the possibility of code being written by the site programmers to manipulate the dice but that leads to the question "What is to be gained by doing so". I've never heard a convincing answer to that one. ;)

Yes, well I'm sure if someone was clever enough in that way to write a dice program in the first place.........but I guess I was just having a wee moan.

But the possibility is there..........wouldn't be the first site I've played on with corrupt owners........not that I'm suggesting that in any way or form :)

I find that quite personally offensive actually - that's not particularly unusual on Fibs, especially amongst the North American contingent  (see ######### thread)

I resign from the site as it's full of, and run by, American XXXXXXXXXX. The chat room is full of morons and, perhaps, they have control of the dice.

One day I will find a decent backgammon site with fair players, but not today :)

thing is as dorbel said - we have all experienced it - swings in results..hang on in and as he has said elsewhere don't play when tired hungry enebriated or distracted.

the morons in public chat can even be angelic owls sometimes -- but maybe i am completely deluded or in a cup half full" mood
sorry that you have felt offended by the article -- it is a little paranoia inducing isn't it? but let us know when you find the utopian board and server.. remember at least you ain't loosing money when u have a bad run on FIBS

garp, you're exactly the one who sounds like an xxxxxxxxx, a xxxxxxxx and upset one.

There's at least three orders of magnitude in difficulty between writing a dice routine and writing something that usefully does dice manipulation - unless the person manipulating the dice is prepared to put a lot of manual effort into it.

Good thing, too. Because you'd *still* have to provide a reasonable motive for dice manipulation. ;)

What most people don't know about dorbel is that after retiring from first Microsoft & and then Apple, both with large windfalls, he began his first gaming sites from the Cayman Islands, and is now living comfortably in his castle in the Carpathians.

If I had control of the dice, I wouldn't be a moron.

 I think someone needs to give their head a shake as its full of cartoons !
Only 70 points ? Not bad, I dropped from 1650 plus to 1450 average in a couple weeks-
No drama , I was playing the same, even BETTER due to a little coaching from other players as to cubing etc.
As I have read on the site somewhere and I quote it to opponents when they go on about their 'luck' or lack of it or the dice:
Luck comes to us all , its how we use it:
Either wisely or waste it .
The bots always use it wisely as do the better players.
I myself have wasted my luck many times , its just a basic learning process in my opinion.
Dice manipulation ?
To what end/means would this give the admin any advantage?
Im sure you will be sadly missed, as much as myself if i chose to leave Fibs , we are insignificant as individuals but together make a great backgammon community.
Your loss me thinks? And im currently only a phoney player
Conspiracy theories are just that; THEORIES !
I pay the dice bot off weekly btw
Rickochet on Fibs. Converted from mobile odesys to 3d fibs on pc.

Oh dear, I think apologies are in order.

It would appear that, during my short spell in rehab, some evil, petty, ill-informed, childish and ignorant person has been using my login to post drivel here.

I can only apologise and assure you that steps have been taken to prevent any further such nonsense.

Regards,

Garp

There's lots of reading on this subject on fibsboard in other places and other blogs.  This is the first I found here:  http://www.fibsboard.com/general-chit-chat/about-the-dice-generator-t1487.0.html  then within that article, diane refers to these:  http://www.bkgm.com/rgb/rgb.cgi?view+262 and http://www.bkgm.com/rgb/rgb.cgi?view+546 and http://www.bkgm.com/rgb/rgb.cgi?view+546 and the infamous link again:  http://www.alef.co.uk/fibs/archive/dysfunction.html which is meant to be a joke, but one we're never quite sure of when we experience bizarre rolls!

Hope this gives you more to think about.   ;)  No apologies needed.  I think we all suffer from these thoughts when the dice go south!   :eager: :frusty: :s49:
