Doubling during a one point match ...

Just curious why some people do it. 

Maybe to end a game faster?

Have you ever doubled during a one point match, and if so, what were your reasons?

No, I have never done it..but there are newbies who don't realise that the rating points you get are the same whether you win by 1 point or 64...perhaps they are used to money games when they arrive, where winning by more gets you more return.  They eventually get it if you make a policy of routinely resigning a 1 point match as a backgammon [if you are losing it of course  ], they will ask why and be surprised that it makes no difference at all.

....not forgetting, of course, to re-cube before you then resign!

Some insist it brings good luck with the dice.     While others think maybe you will click wrong, which I have, btw.  Then, there are some who just want to take the cube to 64 for fun!  Novel idea, too!

i've done it, usually drunk and not realizing it was only a one pt game (and with manxkitty of course, she just thinks it's funny

Some newbies are simply clueless - I was myself at one time.  When I first started playing online (3 pointers at MSN Gamezone, I think) I had no idea why the cube was grayed out some of the time.  If I had been able to click it, I'm sure I would have doubled at 2-2 in a match to 3.

Since some FIBS interfaces allow doubles where it makes no sense, some people will use it.
