One of the more recent oxygen-suckers on FIBS, diceagogo, and I have made a small wager on today's elections.

Deuce: Democratic party will gain at least one seat in the Congress.

Diceagogo: Democratic party will gain no seats in the Congress.

Stakes:  Twenty Bucks.

Just thought I'd record it for posterity.

As is obvious,  I lost the bet.

Stupid me, I forgot to factor in the GOP gerrymandering of Texas, which made a net gain by the Democrats a very long shot, indeed.

As is the practice on shouts, diceagogo spent a good fifteen minutes gloating, while lecturing and hectoring me before insulting my homor by refusing to accept payment.

Sigh.  It's going to be a long four years.

You don't wanna know what I'm hearing from folks in policy-making positions in DC, what's coming down the pike is going to be mind-numbingly stupid, and destructive.

Brace yoursellves.  Make sure you have solid investments and savings, and try to have a secure job.   Yes, that's always good advice, but things are going to get ugly, and fast.

Wondering what the new word for "Hooverville" will be....

Biggles

Geez deuce,

You really took it in the shorts betting on your fine upstanding Democratic party.

Maybe you'd better switch to something you don't need to think about too hard, like sports or something.

NIHILIST

Not very smart, are you, Deuce ? A beltway insider who makes a dumb bet cuz he forgot about something  as important to his wager as re-districting in Texas now comes to us with his latest Chicken Little ravings.

Are these the same policy wonks who assured you that Kerry would win cuz things looked so great on the ground ?

Isn't it astonishing that someone who's supposed to be so dumb keeps beating people who are supposed to be so smart ?

Let me add my BWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

My Dear Robert:

1)  I really wish that you'd read what people write instead of what you think they wrote.

I never said I knew "policy wonks" on the ground, I said I knew people at grass roots levels in the campaigns.

Do try to pay attention, and read for comprehension.

2)  No, these are not the same people from whom I am receiving information about proposed policy changes.  I'm receiving information about policy proposals from the folks who work in their offices at policy levels, from a friend in the IRS for instance,  with news about proposed tax code changes; from a friend at the EPA; from a friend in the international banking analysis division of the CIA, etc.

If you had thought it through, my Dear Robert, you'd have remembered that the sort of people who might know about policy level moves in DC would have been barred  by the Hatch Act from the sorts of activites that I reported earlier.  Thus, logically, they could not have been the same people.

But never let actual analysis get in the way of a cheap shot.  You never do.

3)  I've never called Biggles stupid.  (Or, if you meant Bush, I've actively argued on shout that he is *not* stupid.)  He's obnoxious, arrogant, purposely ill-informed and in general no gentleman.  But I've never called him "stupid".  He says stupid things, to be sure.  Which is the behavior of stupidity.

 But he's not stupid.

More's the pity, really.   There's no excuse, is there?

4)  I'm puzzled by the nastiness of the gloating.  I stated a position, and my reasons for it.  I put my money where my mouth is, lost, and paid up.

 That's pretty much standard practice.

And before you repeat the canard that I deserve this for blowing my mouth off, I will bet you a thousand dollars that you and biggles have written more words about it than I did in the three or so minutes of chat leading up to the bet.

What did I say, after all?   Essentially: "I'm hearing things on the ground that make me feel pretty good."  "wanna bet?"  "Sure."

The rest was just getting the terms straight.  So, who's *really* shooting off their mouths, hmm?

I mean, c'mon.  I know you guys know what a straw man is, after all you use it all the time.  What is it that you guys are really after?

Self-agrandizement?  Pulling the wings off flies?

You guys may not be stupid, but damn, there is really something wrong with you in the soul department.

Enjoy your semi-privatized Social Security, Old Man.  Have fun paying those broker's fees while your investments don't even keep up with inflation.

Enjoy the six months of gasoline we get from drilling ANWAR.

It's not ten days since the election, and those two are already officially coming down the pike.

"Chicken Little"?  If you say so.

Deuce, who did recently enjoy a 5-0 defeat of diceagogo , so who's the man, now, dawg?  :P
