Reputation Is Important

I've just started to learn how to use the repbot and I realize the importance of asking my opponents for a vouch after playing and mentoning that I'd give them a vouch.

My rep has changed from bad to good and I have a lot less problem getting games now. I used to have to troll for a while ow to find a game. Now I have one withing a few minutes at most.

I should have realized it but I didn't. When I'm invited to a game by a player with a bad rep I usually pass.

I am glad to see you are using this - it does help avoid the dropper shouts which are so dull...But please only vouch for players who deserve it - rather than on a tit for tat basis - ie I will vouch for you if you vouch for me - otherwise the system becomes meaningless.  Vouch for players who finish matches they are losing and are polite about it, for example.  Choose your own criteria for recommending players to other people - but please use some.

Snowjake, it's an unwritten rule here on fibs that no one is allowed to ask opponents for a vouch!

Unless your name is "mookie"!!

That will be shaken, not, stirred!

Snowjakes,

Another way to get your reputation up is to join the crowd and do what all the young people are doing these days:  VOUCH MOOKIE!!!!!!

I think that only players that Mookie loses to should vouch for him. (Watch Mookie's repbot rating skyrocket!)

Another thought occurred to me on the subject of 'choose your own criteria' - be aware that maria vouches only for droppers and good freinds - so if you see a vouch from maria - it means the player falls into one of those categories - you will have to decide which..... ;)

Actually, to be serious for a moment, it seems to me perfectly reasonable for a newbie to say something of the nature of, "If you've enjoyed playing with me, it would be nice if you vouched for me."  I mean, no one is endorsing being a vouch slut, but in a case like snow's, when one or two people complained about you for odd reasons, it seems ok to "observe" to others that the vouch function exists, if they choose to use it.

Speaking of which, VOUCH mookie if you enjoyed this note.

Doesn't

constitute 'criteria' ? ;)  All I am saying - is there should be some basis for a vouch - even if it is ' I only vouch for droppers' - at least then we know  :D

This unwritten rule is silly in respect to RepBot AND FIBS unless you unwrite another rule to go with it, like no 10K usage of RepBot, or no use of multi-IDs with RepBot.  Of course unenforcable, as is the first unwritten rule.

The fact is, RepBot is flawed in design and the only trustworthy info from it is the objective fact of the number of saved games of a user.

So many string dimensions, so little space time...

Yeah, terrible design, which is why it has been serving the FIBS community for 5 years now. What don doesn't get, is the non-technical part of the design, which is why he has never succeeded in running bots for over a few days. I am sure he will tell you it was never his intention to run any bots, and that he could if he wanted to.
