Should there be a log of Shouts?

As far as I can tell by searching, the idea has been mentioned a few times, but there doesn't appear to be a thread on this question. 

I would like to propose that there be a running log of every word shouted in Shouts, and that said log be posted where it can be read by fibsters.  If shouters know they're being recorded, it just might cut down on the racist epithets and abuse. 

Is such a log possible?

There used to be a shout bot that was great!  You could query it and find anything you wanted posted by anyone you wanted, but that was killed.  I imagine it had something to do with legality. 

There is a bot doing collecting shout now, but it is not accessible to just anyone.  I don't know any more detail, so if anyone else can add more data, please do!

There already was a long and heated deabate about this issue 4 years ago. In the accompanying poll, a clear cut majority voted against a public shout log, with an amazing 101 votes cast and verified by webmaster back then to make sure they are not manipulated.

My own positions is simple: I strongly oppose any solution which publishes shouts in machine readable and anonymously accessible ways. There are "on request" shout logs independently maintained by Patti, tryout/juggler, and me. So it already is feasible to verify statements when it comes to important, legally relevant issues. But the last thing I want is to find FIBS shouts in Google, this is pandoras box - you can never close it again. It is disproportinal to waive the privacy of FIBS shout for a handful of peanuts, such as "he said she said" argument help in flame wars or plain curiosity.

I think there should be a shout log. I think FIBS should have Grief Counselors on staff. I think FIBS should have attorneys on staff to deal with the daily hate crimes that occur.

Since you people are determined to turn FIBS into a daycare center, I think it needs to be stocked with crying towels and a fresh supply of diapers. I think there should be weekly sensitivity classes. FIBS should have daily forums with mandatory attendance to meaningfully discuss gay and lesbian issues. FIBS should charge a subscription fee with proceeds going to fund a healthcare program for all members.

When everyone quits playing backgammon to devote their time to these issues of real substance and social concern, Patti can shut FIBS down and be rid of the entire jeering, drooling, masturbating crew.

Of course there shouldn't be a shout log. Let's encourage free speech. Patti already captures anyway in case of disputes and there's no need whatsoever for public access to a long and very dull database of what's in essence background noise.

OK, I have to agree with ah_clem's usenet argument -- jerks will be jerks will be jerks, regardless of the permanence of their remarks.
