LOL..........I love it!  The scenario sounds irritatingly familiar to me!

I would have laughed - except it brought back all those painful memories of my wasted time trying to get broadband from them

LOL - thanks adamosad that cheered me up no end. Whose "complaint letter writing" competition was it btw - I always like new targets.

For further amusement on dealing with bureacracies I recently upgraded my net connection to ADSL and decided to go thru' BT to do it. Installing it proved problematical as they only supply you with two micro-filters for the phone sockets and I needed rather more. When I phoned their "help line" to check that this was what was causing my installation problems after being on hold for about an hour or so I got thru' to some nitwit who wasn't quite sure what a micro-filter was but - after checking with "an expert" (taking about 5 minutes to do so) confirmed that yes I needed one on every socket.

Fine. I proceeded with my installation. I then started getting some very strange phone calls. My land line would ring once or twice and then , just as I was dashing towards it, disconnect. Tracing the calls told me that it was BT ringing. It was BT "Customer Service" (based in India now, I believe). What they were doing , of course, was making multiple outgoing calls  to new customers and disconnecting those that were "unanswered". As someone who was taught to answer the phone on its 3rd ring I had to amend my behaviour for a week or so and grab the phone every time it rang. Two or three days later I managed to be the first responder to their call and have since been able to revert to my lazy habits.

Oh and their question : "Was I happy with their service"? "Yes" I groaned.
