There's a horizontol row that starts with an I that at  least, for me, serves no purpose. It only seems to take up space that I'd rather use for more dialouge.

Is there any way to eliminate this section?

That's a status line, that on my machine does give information like who logged in, and states that I'm disconnected if I am. On the right side it states the current connection status off-line, on-line

under preferences you will find the statusbar click on it to move it in or out.
