New prizing system for MGC: 150 NACCI points for each session's winner
As some of you folks might know, I'm going to complete my studies abroad soon. So, I will have less time to spend on FIBS. But as I've mentioned several times, I will keep my commitment to MGC as far as I can. So, I come up with a new plan: removing the monthly prize of 200 NACCI pts and splitting it between the 4 weekly sessions. So from this monday on (October 20th, 2008), each winner of MGC's sessions will be rewarded with 150 NACCI points but there will be NO monthly sessions.
I hope this change would encourage more valiant, militant and gallant fibsroids to participate in the elegant tourney of gladiators!

OK. Since the mods keep deleting posts, I make a brief peresentation of what happened tonight. In the final match of tonight's MGC round, *** was playing with ***. After a while, they got engaged in a debate on how to play backgammon correctly. As time passed on, *** began playing the role of an omniscient tutor and started commenting on ***'s moves and cube actions, often in a criticizing/humiliating manner, even though many of his own moves were grave blunders. Frankly speaking, I do think that players should refrain from commenting on their opponent's move in such a manner, it's clearly unfair. Thus, when *** doubled when leading 5-4 in the 7-pt match, I just decided to give him a taste of his own drug and adviced bret to re-double for match. Surely I could have said him in tells, but I thought letting *** know it might be the true way. The rest of story is shamefull for both of us, exchanging strong words.
I confess I might have done wrong, but I think ***'s behaviour was unfair, BTW.
I also would like to inform you all that I will never run MGC anymore. Find another TD for this tourney or let it die.
Regards

Whatever the players talk with each other is between them. A tourney director shouldn't take sides except in cases of extreme abuse. While I would leave it to the TD's discretion to intervene w/r to language to calm things, it is essential to remain neutral w/r to the match play.

PersianLord
, a few of us, as TD's and players, suggested to
adz
to use a different name for the new Monday tourney and
donzaemon
had no problems with a new name for Nacci awards. My support for that suggestion was, in part, based on you perhaps returning as TD at sometime in the future with another
Gladiatorial Contest
perhaps at a different day or time. While tempers got a little hot, as can happen when a bunch of emotional players play an emotional game like backgammon, we are all adults capable of growing and forgiving. Thanks for getting the tradition of a Monday tourney with 3/7 lengths started.

Thanks Sixty.
As I've made it clear several times now, I have no intention of becoming a TD again. Actually as Zorba pointed out, I
disqualified
myself for a TD by my repugnant and wrongful behavior 2 weeks ago. Good or bad, I seem to be too emotional to be a consistent and competent TD, and perhaps too young as well. Thus, a prospect of becoming once again a TD is very very unlikely for me. I commenced this tourney with great enthusiasm 7 months ago, I give it up with sorrow now.
But since I've spent tens of hours of my time for MGC, creating brackets with TourneyBot, advertising in shouts, supervising the matches, reporting the finals in shouts and then reporting the results to donz and posting them here, observing MGC's survival would serve me as a kind of compensation. Thus the only thing I ask for is to keep the name of the tourney, Monday's Gladiatorial Combats. And I have no objection to any fibster becoming the TD: you, adz, spielberg or Dea.

don't be too hard on yourself,
PersianLord
.. we were all young and hot headed once and certainly we've all made mistakes .. some leave afterwards or develop really nasty tempers as a result .. the best stay, admit their mistake, learn from it and move on .. you have all the signs of being in that latter group .. only time will tell .. with time you may find yourself interested in being a TD again, maybe not .. either way, it's just another of life's little learning opportunities for all of us
life is real good at offering many such
opportunities
