3DFibs looks  Yes  but alas... every build I've tried has this window error box   Sad  coming up before every (offline*) move:

Error in showMiddleGameboard Type mismatch

The following error box also appears repeatedly:

Error in ProcessBoardOutput Type mismatch

I can continue to play each move after clicking ok - but it is annoying & I'd very much appreciate some guidance as to why this could be happening & resolving it. Thanks v much.


(Using XP, AMD 1800XP+, 512ram, & happens both on a Gainward Geforce 4 and also with my current Matrox Millennium card)

Hi,

Sorry about this silly bug. I lost track of what bugs were fixed and which files were uploaded.  I have uploaded 2.2.288 which still needs testing in regards to the new sounds features options but it should work without those awful error messages

Alas, .288 still gives the same error - like every other build I've tried - as soon as I start a game, the error message box comes up  - I click ok, and then the other message box comes up. So it's still a question of clicking ok to each of the error boxes before and after every move  Sad

If you can't replicate this error, is there anything I could do to send you the technical info 'behind the scenes' as the window boxes come up?

Hi,

I have uploaded a new fibzip.exe. It seems the old one was built with a copy of some script that was outdated. I am surprised I didnt get a torrent of complaints about that.  Anyway.. I have just run the program with this installation and it seems to work ok. I would uninstall any old versions and files just in case..

Thx so much for your attention to this. True it's odd that others haven't reported the above problem. However, the latest build, I'm sorry to say, still doesn't resolve the issue I'm having. And that is despite uninstalling the earlier versions...

... I just wanted to add that though the latest setup asks about installing .289, the file version is, when installed, reporting as version .288

Sorry to hear there are still problems.
If you have any more details that you think might be helpful I will look into it.  If you know of anyone else with a similar machine as yours who has this problem (or not) could be useful also.

hi, apologies for not respnding sooner. Might your request for further details require debugging  Shocked your software? And presuming that it's ok to do so, what calls, handles, jumps, ops etc (or other clues) should I look out for - to present to you? And secondly, is there any particular debugging software which you'd recommend as being appropriate in regard to this window box error problem?

I would be willing to attempt this firstly only if it's permissible to do so; and secondly if I get enough spare time to attempt this. I'm not a programmer, but am often an intrepid problem solver (paricularly when my blood alcohol levels correlate with the day to day sobriety of existence...) For instance my Direct X version is 8.1 but is this of use? & I currently use Java Fibs 2001_v1005 without error. Nonetheless I have a sneaking suspicion that your 3D Fibs is comparatively  Yes

OH no, nothing that drastic.

We can start by comparing sizes of files to determine if we are workin with the same thing.

Sizes should be..

fibzip.exe  3,052,944
gnubg.dll  122,332
gnubg.weights 933,516
3dfibs.exe 299,013

Is this what you have?

Looks good so far.

The only other thing to check is for duplicates and where the shortcut you might be clicking on is pointing to.

If all that checks out, and you still have the error messages
the issue is beyond any useful support I can offer.

You could try a thorough scandisk and maybe fix some bad clusters, defrag..It is a wild guessing game from here..
