Title: Game 2, move 24: Herd 4-4
Post by: diane on November 10, 2011, 03:32:28 PM
ah_clem rolled 4-3 and took two off, herd now has a good running roll - so how to get the best out of it...

There are many permutations here, so let me know if another grabs your fancy - I will add it, as long as you explain why.

The vote was split for this one, with no clear favourite. The Herd therefore played my favourite move  ;)

I liked 19/15, 18/6 - as it gave the most cross overs [transitions?] of the options. This is important right now as the rush is on to not be gammoned!

That's only three crossovers, and there are many moves that give four crossovers.  Nonetheless, I think 19/15, 18/6 is correct - when trying to run off a gammon you should bear in to the six point if you can, otherwise make moves in the outfield.   18/6 plays a checker to the six, and 19/15 is best for diversification.

It would be interesting to see a rollout.

Hmm, so it is..I counted four, several times  ;) I still prefer that move, even if it is for the wrong reasons!

Will roll it out when I get home.
