ok..a lot happened after that 2-1...

Herd rolled 6-1 and reentered..then it was a straight race to catch up with very little difference between the moves..I therefore played the most obvious moves..and Julia won, with the Herd narrowly escaping being gammoned [only 1 pip off]

Herd won the opening roll in game 2, with a 3-1 to play..we made the 5 point  ;)

Anyway, lots of options with this one. Against a passive opening roll I'd go for two points in my board. However, the herd having their 5 means I need to be more cautious and think of an advanced anchor. Grabbing their 4 is undoubtedly good; their bar gives me no defence when hit and I may well have to leave fly shots to build my board. So, what point on my side do I want, 10, 8 or 3? 3 unstacks my heavy point but it can be stepped past more easily. 5 breaks a point that's already valuable, leaves a fly shot and doesn't really address that heavy point. 10 is a longer-term asset preparing to build a board. I suspect the way this will go is that the Herd have more incentive to run now that they can't easily prime or blitz me - which means an outfield hitting contest and so I want the extra home board point. 24/21(2) 6/3(2)
