After 4/1 3/2* we also have eleven shots.
After 7/6*/3 we leave the blot in the outfield and only 52 and 61 hit. That's four vs eleven.
Four is much better than eleven. Clearing the eight is worth considering in its own right, but all those extra shots make me want to play 7/6*/3

I'm surprised that generated as much dissent as any position so far! GNU says the overriding concern is return shots - which are immediately fatal if hit. I can see a plausible-ish case for 4/1 3/2* in that if missed, it kicks the back man off an awkward point and makes future rolls much easier; 8/7 8/5 looks much worse in that not only is it 11 shots immediately, it leaves open some double-shot numbers next time.
