Title: Game 3, move 3: Forum 3-1 FORCED, roadkillbooks 5-2
Post by: Zorba on July 13, 2009, 07:49:08 AM
After rkb's double-hit, the forum (BLUE) enters one checker and hits with 3-1. Now it's rkb's (WHITE) turn, 5-2 to play:

Unless I am going blind [and no, I am not drunk at 11 am  ;) ], the words somewhat contradict the piccy....the words say say forum is white and RKB is blue - but the gnu board says forum is blue and RKB is white.  I am far too confused to try and sort all this out, let alone dare suggest a move...

ok, I am now fairly certain the piccy is right and the words are wrong [having set it up on my own gnu board, from the code supplied]...based on that...here are my thoughts

Spoiler
Given that we have a blot on the bar still, and that this roll doesn't do anything natural like make a point, I would now get bolder with the chips...as ah_clem was keen to do earlier  ;)
I generally play one piece at a time in situations like this - so, I would rather the piece on the bar came in on the 20, rather than the 23 - because otherwise it is 3 chips buried in our homeboard.  So, that leaves a 2 to play.  Playing 8-6 safe is pretty ugly - building a stack and reducing flexibility, so where else...20-18 or 13-11 are the only real options - and of those I prefer 13-11.  I want the 20 to stay slotted so I get a go at making that advanced anchor, and although it makes the board very blotty, the 13-11 gives me lots of things I can look to do next roll. So, my move on this one would be bar-20, 13-11

I'm a bit confused here too. Why is diane trying to play rkb's move?

Blue's turn, bar 20, but 13/11 is white.     I'm lost!

It is white's turn, the text is wrong - look at the white dice....it took me ages to figure it out too, hence the post.

Hey, this is a free for all - we all comment on everyone's moves, and trust each other not to peek when it is our turn  ;)  That has already been discussed at length, further back in the game.  :)

Of course, ah_clem likes to throw some red herrings [not to mention chips] around...

Sorry sorry... it was too early this morning and before coffee   :kaffeepc:  :giggle:

When in doubt, the picture is always right! The white dice show that it's white's turn. Also, dice on the left show it's the top player's move. I'm so sorry it took diane ages to find it out!!

I corrected the text.

And sure, everyone's free to comment on roadkillbook's moves, as long as you put it under a spoiler button.

Spoiler
24/22, 13/8 I dont want to lose my 8 point and i need to get more pieces down on my side of the board no matter what.  Id like to move to the 18 to form an advanced anchor...but the only reason i double hit to begin with was because my 8 point was striped ..well now it is only slotted (more like abandoned i guess i only like to use slotted if I actually put the piece there) Other plays like bar20, 13/11 try to do too much.  I want flexibilty and stability helps flexibility ..meaning there are not things that I HAVE to do.  If I slot the 18..for example..i have to cover it AND cover my 8 point.  Just natural to do that now.  I could hit with the 5 but that can be discarded because I  clealy am NOT prepped with the ammo for a blitz right now

I do like the play but I think it is trying to do way to much when I don't even have the 8 point.  Like 13/11 is great....to make the 8  or 7 point.  I used to agrssively play blots all over the board but then blots'r'us went out of business.  If possible I think it's better NOT to leave more blots..now if forum still had 2 pieces on the bar it would be a different story..but in that case I still would need ammo for the blitz.  At least my back pieces are split.  If I had come in with a 5/1 then I think Id give more serious consideration to coming in on the 20 since 3 pieces one the 24 is a scarry sight.

rkb is white, plays anti-clockwise, enters his checker from the bar B/23, then plays 13/8 with the five.
