Title: dear don
Post by: jinnate on April 02, 2004, 09:19:31 AM
you started a conversation which i asked you to continue to shouts as i had a lot of windows open. after that, you sent three more tells. after each one, i asked you again to please continue in shouts. you finally reply, "i am going to use fibs to its full capabilities" [i am quoting from memory, so this may not be a direct quote].

what i heard when you said "i am going to use fibs to its full capabilities" was that my requests, indeed, my time, energy and resources were of absolutely no concern to you and you would continue to do as you pleased without regard for me.

i gagged you.

then you joined my tourney.

i admit to being already distracted by another program i was running, a tourney someone requested i start, in addition to your sudden un-cooperativeness. i am less than pleased that i kept reacting to you piecemeal instead of taking a break, taking a breath, and taking a big step back to get a look at the bigger picture. i am less than pleased that it didn't register that you were playing in my tourney gagged until you reminded me after the tourney.

now that i've done so, i want to let you know that i feel angry, mostly because i don't know where this is coming from. it's not as if we had an argument previous to this. i feel your behavior was completely unprovoked and out of the blue. it makes me wonder if i was simply the first available target at the end of a bad day, and i feel leary of dealing with you in the future.

in any case, i am taking a step back now. i am remembering the 95-post thread and what was said on it. and what's been said about the kgb on fibsboard and my solution at this point is to: 1. give you absolutely no attention at all, 2. come up with a method of dealing with kgb so my fibs fun is less threatened.

until i do so:

1. i will ban you from playing my tourneys.

2. i will gag and blind you on fibs. nothing stops you from leaving messages, except my request that you refrain from doing so and the knowledge that they will be ignored. nothing stops you from emailing me, except my request that you refrain from doing so and the knowledge that they will be filtered into the circular file.

3. i will be ignoring your response to this, and to the 95-post thread i think you will be attempting to create here on fibsboard.

you know, i really don't know what brought this on for you, but i really didn't expect that you would be my first fibs nightmare. i had a list of usual suspects and you weren't on that list.

jinnate, now that it's no secret who the director was.  I can simply say your quote involving full "capabilities" came from my post, not FIBS.  The match was in play when all this happened, and you have just confessed that you can't handle the complete spectrum of FIBS, no matter what I did.

I'm sorry Jinnate, I like you, and I've enjoyed explaining FIBS to you and figuring out TourneyBot and explaining it to you.  But when I login to FIBS and find your last post quoted by users like NIHILIST and Honeygirl, no matter how silly it is, I have to say I have proven my case that you are an incompetant tourney director.  I would suggest that you learn to handle "tell" before you go flaming.  I would also suggest that a tourney director who flames when unprovoked should not be a tourney director.  I ignored one of your silly reactions here, but now all FIBS knows.

I'd hoped to keep personalities out of this, and flames.

By the way, jinnate, I find it difficult to conceive that if a user uses "tell jinnate" during a tourney, it's a legitimate reason to ban the user from tourneys, flame the user DURING a tourney, and flame the user here.  I may like you, but I can't say you have many qualifications to run a tournament.

On the other hand, you have exactly what it takes to run a tourney, enthusiasm.  That's why I like you and that's why I've helped you in the past.  Your only lack appears to be a bit of confusion and a chip on your shoulder... both easilly corrected.

 I just want to say that Jinnate is one of the best tourney directors out there.  Whenever I ask Jinnate to start a tourney her reply is "What is the length and what is the name?"

She is professional in every way and knows how to run a tourney!  (as does Socksey and a bunch of others.)  I have never had a problem with a tourney at all.

I had a situation not long ago with Don where he disagreed with something I said and he haunted me in tell while I was playing in a tourney, even though I asked him to stop.  My only choice was to gag him so I understand what Jinnat went through.

I realize that adding to this thread is on some level enabling Don, but I don't like when someone is slandered.

That's my two cents!

Don, and others...I might give you this bit of advice...

Notice who the TD is of the tourney you are considering entering, and make a decision as to whether or not you then wish to continue and enter the tourney. If you don't like the way a particular TD manages tourneys, then don't enter his/her tourneys anymore.

Tourneybot is not a right, it is a privilege.

....find your last post quoted by users like NIHILIST and Honeygirl, no matter how silly it is...

There is a very simple solution: gag them.

The FIBS bullies will use any tactics they can to undermine and attack weaknesses in others. The major mistake made by other Fibsters is listening to them. A few years ago I made a posting on rec.games.backgammon trying to start a debate about 2pt matches. Perhaps I was naive, certainly didn't realise that they were serious 2pt match tournaments held both live and online on other servers. Then I had the bullies regularly calling me stupid and generally trying to belittle me about it. They will use whatever ammunition they can find, so just gag them! Life is too short to spend time listening to them.

There are plenty of Fibsters with constructive view points who really are worth sharing the shouts with.

Burper, you are just trying to stir up a fire.  The fact is that, during a tourney, jinnate gagged me for using "tell" for communications.  I didn't want it personal, still don't, but jinnate seems upset by her incapability of managing windoze and is doing a very undirector-like thing instead of learing to manage windoze. IMO.  I refer specifically to her 50th flame, er, message here.

I agree with you that she is generally an excellent director, an asset to FIBS, and I hope she continues to be so.  I am only suggesting she get even better than she is, and I am as willing to help her now as I have been in the past.

don, may i take the risk of throwing in two euros? it sounds like there were some crossed wires between you and jinnate. perhaps jinnate isn't a grandmaster at using fibs commands, but that really isn't a matter to discuss publicly.

running a live tournament requires lots of multitasking and what TDs need is appreciation for their time and energy. and of the various problems on FIBS, surely this isn't one worthy of a big thread? may i redirect your nitpicking skills towards helping with the FIBS documentation?  ;)

There are two types of people in the world.  Those who move on, and those who complain.

There are those that go to a restaurant, get bad service and just never go back.  I, personally, think that is the easier way.  Lots of restaurants out there and not enough time in my life trying to get a restaurant to change its service to my likings.

The other group of people want to complain to the manager, the cook, the waiter, and try to change everything to their liking.

It is no different with the tourneys.  There are plenty of tourneys each and every day.  Instead of saying you don't like the service of a TD, just don't come back!

Of course things change when a restaurant serves food that makes people physically ill.

Fortunately, communities usually have some sort of organisation to deal with places like that.

Don, when a tourney director asks you to do something a certain way having to do with communicating during a tourney, you should comply.  Being a tourney director requires lots of multitasking and sometimes it becomes a bit overwhelming.  Please don't annoy jinnate when she is directing a tourney.  Just do as she asks and leave it at that.

Socks, I did exactly what you suggest.  I complied to the director's request, then I found out I was gagged when I heard the tourney director flaming me in shouts.

It may well be mis-communication, but I'm not a tourneybot director who has admitted ignorance of how-to-use FIBS, and I only started the previous thread because I was hoping to start a good conversation, not get flamed by jinnate on her 50th post.

Ok I think that the discussion went a little further than desired but it will have had at least the merite to highlight the small things to which to pay attention.

I count on the goodwill of each one, namely the respect of the ones and others and the will to discuss so that it do not have there any misunderstood.

TD, try to be as open as possible to the different complaints of the players.
Players, try to understand how it can become complicate to manage tourney and to hear, understand and reply to each remarks made by all of us.
All is not forcing envisaged, the decisions must be made quickly and do not always satisfy....

And the most that it have to be said :

TD manage tourney on their Free Time and for your pleasure, so please if you want them to go on, be lenient and they will progress by themselves with the experiment.

What ever happened to personal responsibility?

Don, you were gagged because you were being annoying to Jinnate.  She did not just randomly gag you.

The fact that it caused you some problems in the tourney is unfortunate but it was a situation of your own making.

Can't you just admit that you stalked Jinnate to the point where she had to gag you and then you joined the tourney just so that you could start this whole argument?  And if that isn't true, can't you at the very least admit that it was your own actions that brought you to this point?

I repeat, what ever happened to personal responsibility?

Tomawaky makes sane remarks.

Port, blaming doesn't belong here.  We are all human.  We all make mistakes.

Understanding, respect, and restraint is in order.

I agree with you 100% Socks.  I was merely making an observation.  You light a match, your house burns down.  Don't blame anyone!  Take personal responsibility.  That's all.

And I think that it was a lack of respect, retraint and understanding that caused this chain.

But that is just me talking!  I like a good debate, but I also don't like to see innocent people who are giving up their time (the TDs) get slammed for no reason.  I liken this situation to people who volunteer there time to act as referees and end up getting screamed at by some irrate mom or dad who doesn't like a call.

Have respect for the system and the system will respect you.

 As a happy end , it would be nice that don will handle the complaints and/or tech problems  shouted/tell-ed by tourney players, and jinnate the rest. Of course this seems a dream, but if they run together a blitz  tourney, with at least 16 players, I certainly believe that they will do each a very good job, and that tourney will be a joyride for both. ( I mean it).

Below is a post I made to TD private forum, subsequent to diane posting a lengthy conversation in shout with don and jonjon.  I guess this answers your question here as well, asengyel.  ;))  Here it is verbatim:

Quotejonjon shouts: my problem with the forum started when people like burper and socksey started the campaign to ban don for life when he had done nothing more then be extremely annoying

burper, did we start that ban don thing?  I don't remember that!  Do I have to go back to the beginning?  I'm going to email jonjon.  Wasn't I opposed to the banning in the beginning?  Didn't I throw my hands up after umpteenth God-awful long conversations with don and others trying to prevent a banning?  Grrrrrrrrrrr  OK, let's hire a hit man and off them both!  (Just kidding, folks!)  LOL   And wasn't the banning for a total lack of respect for TD's while in their tourneys, and refusing to follow their rules?  Dang!  I should have voted for permanent ban!  Two weeks was nothing!  If I knew then what I know now, I would have gone for the permanent ban.

Oh, and, diane, that "shout" conversation was almost a carbon copy of one I had with don in chat some time ago.

P.S.  I am posting this to the public forum as well.

Yet another example of don getting into it with yet another fibster. Why is this person allowed to still be on fibsboard? He has already issued a tearful goodbye, but then returned to harrass diane. I just want to understand the rules here, as they don't see to be consistently followed in a couple of cases.
