FIBS Board backgammon forum

I am relatively new to the challenges of backgammon and just today discovered the FIBS website....this is also the first time I've participated in a chat room.  I'm simply trying to get clarification on the number of games one would normally play in a (match?).  I was told it didn't really matter as long as it was an odd number.  Is this correct?

I'd appreciate any help on this.

Hi and welcome to Fibs.
A good number to start with is onepointers or three pointers.
Keep the number low since you are a beginner and .. no offence but.. beginners are mostly a bit slow.

I play everything from 1 pointers to 15 pointers, it all depends on the amount of time you have.
And... of course...you can always save a match and resume it later if you want (but your opponent has to agree or you will get a "bad rep")

No, you can play even numbered matches no problem(np) it's just not commonly done. Most prefer the best of 1/3/5/7 situation and the doubling dice comes into it too. But also with evens :) Otherwise the longer time you have as webrunner said , the longer games you can play.
