Title: How to generate pictures of play sit
Post by: erikt on March 17, 2005, 09:15:12 AM
I want to generate pictures in JPG format of play-situations, to include in, say WORD or OpenOffice documents. And NO, I won't settle for X's and O's ;-)
Anyone out there can suggest software to do this in a neat fashion ?
I know I can screencapure, but that is somewhat cumbersome:  it would require a lot of PaintShop work to clean then up and standardize.

If you are using Windows I can recommend SnagIt. You can find it here (http://www.techsmith.com/products/snagit/).

You can download a Trial Version. The price is $39.95. It's worth the money.

There is loads of free screen cpturing tools wich also allow you to capture the content of only one window.
BGBlitz is not only a nice BG program but makes very nice captures in HTML.

I exclude plain screen capturing on previously stated grounds.

I found GNUBG, which can apparently make good pictures, allbeit .PNG. But that will pose no problems.

I looked at BGBlitz, but cannot find any picture generation from displayed board settings there.

So I'll keep checking out GNUBG... plays nice too.

Thanks for your replies.

No need to spend that 39 dollars when u use Mac OS X

'Command, shift up and 3' in one click will make a picture of the whole screen.

'Command, shift up and 4' in one click will make it posiible to capture a selection of your screen.

Even thought you reject print screen and paint erikt, I can make a picture of my board position in less than 30 seconds with print screen and paint.  See my method if you are interested.

Windoze has the print-screen button which copies different things to your clipboard depending on if you use shift or alt or control with the print-screen key.  Then you can paste the image into the graphic program of your choice.  I think the options give you either the contents of the window, the whole window, or the whole screen.  I have to experiment every time because I rarely use it.

Also, gnubg can export a position as an html file, tho I've never tried it.
