I'm sorta new to FIBS and I'm not quite sure if I'm having problems or if the site isn't working properly for me. I'm going to list some of the things that happen to me and some of my questions.
I guess I should open by saying I use a Mac with the OSX OS and Safari is my browser.
I also want to say that I enjoy my gammon experience on FIBS because I think I've noticed a fairly high claiber of player.
I seem to lose quite a high number of games midway through. It's almost impossible for me to play a 3 point match or longer without having to quit and play as a resumed game. Is this typical.
I can't chat with anyone.
I can't seem to find what my own rep is or how many saved games I have. Can someone answer these questions for me? I play as Snowjake, which BTW, are the names od my 2 dogs.
I can't seem to make the commands work for me .
I can't find how to automatically connect to my saved games.
Also, are there players who quit 1 move before they lose games? It seems to me that I have quite a few saved games where all I have to do is get back onine with players and hit "the win button" to win games I have won. I won't mention names at tis time but I think I've spotted 2 or 3 people who are like this.
Whatever anyone can tell me about this iste and how to better use it would be appreciated.
Start by telling us which interface you have downloaded to play with - if you havent I would recommend javafibs - it works well on the MacOSX.
Hi,
as Diane sayed use javafibs dowloaded from www.fibs.com
Don't use Safari is too much Mac_only, Firefox (www.firefox.com) is better you can "go" everywhere.
With javafibs most of your problems will be resolved (I'm a Mac user, this is my 4th one).
About the "droppers".. shoot 'em  No we can't! But.. I'm just think it over ;). Look at the Shout.. NO droppers there! Use RepBot also, tell RepBot ask (player's name) and tell Repbot list (player's name) is very usefull.
For the few things I know.. ask for them.
Claudio
Thanks to both of you.
I'm heading out of town for the weekend in a few minutes but I'll let you know how I do when I get back
Snowjake,
While you're using repbot to search for droppers, I also recommend that you type in the following popular sequence:
tell repbot vouch mookie
All the kids are doing it, and there seems to be no end in sight to the happiness it brings.
Your new pal,
MOOKIE
I suggest you learn the RESI B and STFU commands. Both will prove to be invaluable to your FIBS experience.
NIHI
 NiHO is always good for a laugh!
Welcome to Fibs, snowjake! Yes, javafibs is best to download for sure!
Don't forget to VOUCH mookie! ;)

Truely spoken NIHI, I did not recognize until now, that you can play backgammon.
I'm going to tell you people that I feel like a stupid idiot because I can't begin to figure out what's happening.
If it's important, I enter here when I want to play games.
http://www.parlorplay.com/fibs_login.php?theme=nat40&home (http://www.parlorplay.com/fibs_login.php?theme=nat40&home)
Once on the game I have 3 different things I can think of besides actual games for interaction.
I can chat with my opponent (what does gagged blind and watch mean in the chat box?)
Beneath the game there's what seems to be anothe rchat box for "To opponet", "To all" and a few other. A I can't beging to figure out what this box does. Then there's the repbot which I haven't figred out yet.
Can someone strighten me out?
BTW
I do want to add that I loaded Firefox and now use it for FIBS.
Parlorplay is the worst possible place to play from. I haven't heard of firefox, so can't help you with that one. You seem to have ignored our advice to use javafibs, which I believe is the best interface to date. Why?

Because I'm a dumb^^^^ and I don't know how to access in any other way. Please help me. I'm not trying to gnore your help.
I'm sure those who have played me will compliment my backgammon skills. I cant say that about my computer skills. I do thank you good people who are trying to help me but I really can't figure out how to properly do things.
Just go Here (http://www.fibs.com/~cthulhu/download.html) and Download.
Parlorplay is a severely limited interface - the only advantage is that you can use it on a machine to which you cannot download software. Whether your browser is firefox, IE, safari or anything else will not change the parlorplay interface. If there is any way you can download javafibs - please do that - then you will find things much easier.
If, however, you cannot download anything and have to use parlorplay - you will have to accept that it is flawed - and you will struggle to get the full functionality of FIBS.

Don't knock parlorplay.
It's very popular with the cheaters.

I'll sign up in your club on ClubGames

I recommend COCOA fibs, get it @apple.com or versiontracker.. has all the nice features and being new you'll have no recollection of MACFIBS, which is still king when it comes to FIBS client.. As for the rest it's still rubbish javascript:emoticon ('')
I'm confused that my use of emoticons never works here...???!
And show some love for Mookie!

Sir is giving you bad advice. It was a Mac user who first talked me into trying Javafibs and I will be eternally grateful! Mac users also tell me how superior Javafibs is over Macfibs! Imagine that! Oh, and maybe if you use the clickable Smiles to the left of your next post, SIR, they will work. heheheheeee

"Forgiveness is not an occasional act; it is a permanent attitude." - Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jake:
Most of your questions can be answered by reading FIBS' help files.
Type "help" on your command line of whatever interface you are using. If you can't figure that out, read the help files for your interface.

I'm sure that's an inside joke, but, no, I'm not.
And Snow and Jake are out two dogs.

Mookie would like to know if the dogs are male or female. (not that he cares, it's just so he knows whether to bring the strap-on or not)

I happen to prefer MacFIBS in classic because it retains access to terminal commands. And I'm just adverse to change. I've heard about some fancy new Mac client that is native in OS X, but it doesn't work on my version. Using telnet in Terminal is also another fine way to play, albeit old school.
Interesting...
