In light of the recent discussion lets have a vote. Yes to stay, no to go.

BTW Remember Vouch mookie.

I'm confused too!!!  Keep it simple for those of us with simple minds.  If the question was Should Repbot stay .... I'd vote no.

Mookie

I am SO dissappointed.  I congratulated shuggie today for making a very funny poll that no one could answer.  Turns out, he was just making a moronic mistake.  Now, the poll is no longer funny and my opinion of shuggie has fallen (from a very low place already).  Sigh.

VOUCH,

All those people voting no, are they really using a voting system?  lol   :)
Do the votes of fibsters that don't come here count:
RepBot says: RepBot's reputation is 214546(GOOD) (no saved)
Does using it count as a vote?
http://repbot.sourceforge.net/stats/
Good thing fibsboard can't be abused like RepBot.
Hey, how about a third option: "stay with modifications"?  Sorry, too many syllables for RepBots' detractors to digest.

Tomawaky

I can't understand people who want repbot go.
It's only a feature available at fibs.

Those who want to use it, do.
The other, don't.

So what is the matter to keep it or not.

Sure this bot must stay
And sure people who don't like it, must ignore it.

It's the same thing as people who keep complaining about Fibs and keep playing.

Isn't some king of masochism ?

Maybe I am the only TD who uses reputation limit in his tourney (a simple 0+ rep)

STAY!!!!!!!!!

dorbel

A system that shows Biggles as the most popular fibster is clearly nonsensical, but as Tomawaky points out, you can use it or ignore it. Incidentally, why aren't some of the other rules enforced? Loads of fibsters quite openly have more than one nick, including me! As dropping also breaks the "be nice" rule, why aren't recidivist droppers like jazzman weeded out? Burper also breaks the "be nice" rule every time he opens his mouth. He could do with removing as well IMO.
Vouch Mookie, while you still can.

Patti

Tomahawky, the biggest person who wants RepBot to go is the one person who has to spend a lot of time cleaning up after it.

A yes vote is, "Yes, I want it to stay and I think Patti should keep having to do work to support it."  I don't see a voting option for, "Yes, I think it should stay and I'm willing to write code so that Patti doesn't have to spend as much time dealing with its problems."

Since the beginning, RepBot has basically been PopularityBot.

Tomawaky

I understand Patti your trouble. And spamming is the worst thing to deal with, cause in final it's spamming we are speaking about.
Why not put a rule in your mailbox which delete all message included "repbot" or an answer which inform the sender that repbot is not part of the things you manage.
Maybe a little time on the mails you receive and you will find the right rules to apply, to avoid most of those spamming.

Is it not so easy ?
Is there any other way where repbot is taking your time ?

Cause as you mention, the point is not to delete repbot but avoiding that you become the Hot-Line .

Yes, there are other ways that RepBot is taking my time.  I have already described the problem in some detail elsewhere.  And RepBot will continue to cause problems for me as long as the abuse loophole is open.

mrbond

Having carefully read all posts relating to this issue, I am rather puzzled that, even though, burper, webrunner, boomslang, adamosad are offering solutions and hopefully remedies to Patti's pain, she seems reluctant to any form of compromise!

For that reason, I will not vote, as it appears to me that the decision is already made!

PS: Still ain't gonna vote for mookie!  -_-
That will be shaken, not, stirred!

Patti

mrbond, most of the solutions that have been offered actually don't solve the problems that I'm talking about.

I've thought this through a LOT, and I don't believe that there is a way to solve the problem without closing the abuse loophole.  I don't see anyone stepping up to the plate to do that.  It's not a matter of my compromising-- I've been doing that for YEARS.  I've reached a point where I'm no longer willing to clean up after this thing, so it needs to either be fixed or go away.

lewscannon

if i vote for repbot to go, where will it go? shouldn't we have another poll to see where to send it?

Someone said that hope dies last.
I hope that:
-this is a bad dream again
-people are good in their depth but afraid to expose that weakness to others
-reading  older posts about this topic on RGB was a horrible nightmare
-I am still alive after reading so much crap
-because I write too much now, my brain will survive the effort
-I won`t shoot at innocents with this post
-I will get a grip with my bare hands on all droppers which are  on fibs only for stirring the sh** up and make them eat it.
-I will be able to admit my addiction to fibs, as a first step taken for freedom
-I really post this one, my identity was stolen, dices are rigged, fibs is a s..t pit, friends are enemies, fibs will die, trust is weakness, ratings are abused, we must all hold grudge for everything, bots are cheating (this list seems to be endless)........

Whining to you, Patti, about abuse/cheating/racism/multiple accounts/droppers/rude language won`t stop. Never. Even after Repbot will be history. The number of complaints e-mailed will decrease,  (this is my oppinion)because the average percent of  idiots online won`t have this extra toy/tool available for abusing fibs/mailboxes.
Droppers will remain a issue, mainly for those who are here for playing and/or trying to have a good time. I hate droppers. I love to win matches! Who doesn`t?  I wait for the first stone, thrown  by anyone that doesn`t love FIBS more than it hates it.
I reckon :hate has more power than love. (but not always). A minor amount (6000+ players on fibs) of exceptions only do strenghten  the above statement.

Pull the plug, humans enjoy online death as well as online sex. :giveflower:

Quotemrbond, most of the solutions that have been offered actually don't solve the problems that I'm talking about.
Maybe not, but as far as i'm concerned it's worth a try. Killing the bot is always an option but why take such hard measures as a start?

As i said, i am willing to open up a mailbox. You can even set up a mailrule in your email client that if the message or subject contains the word "repbot" it is forwarded to that mailbox. Or even (and you can do that now) create an autorespond that points to this forum. All easy stuff any system- or webadmin should do (i host several websites and i have a lot of this automated reply stuff configured).

This is a first step to take some load off your shoulders. That still leaves the other problems, i know. Is there anyone that is able and willing to change some code of repbot? Maybe, for instance, it is fairly easy to create an IP-check (people be vouched from the same IP address twice). That is not an airtight solution but it makes cheating a hell of a lot more difficult then it is now.

Also, isn't it possible to automate some of the cleaning up you have to do by shell scripting?

My message is: Patti, why not take this one step at a time and see where it gets us?
A lot of (partial) solutions have been suggested. Why not give them a try? They might just work. If the problems you are talking about are still there you can always pull the plug.

Asides from that, i think you will recieve a lot more mail of people whining when you pull the plug on repbot in the short term, so that is not really a quick solution either.

Patti, as much is i appreciate all the work you are putting in to it (and believe me, i know it is a lot of work), i get the feeling that you are looking for a quick solution.

There is only one quick solution to your problem as far as i can see it... Kill Fibs, kill the fibs.com domain move on... This of course is not something we all want. Maybe it is time to get some help in administrating Fibs to take some load off your shoulders?

Since i don't have a lot of time and too much projects already i cannot offer you much. But i am willing to offer some time. Maybe i can do some of the email answering?

Another idea jumps up. We could set up an email address that posts directly to this forum. That way we can all see what kind of stuff you are getting and help if people are asking legitimate questions.

OK.. this post is way too long and has too much information. Maybe someone can comment on all this....

If all of this is done simultaneously with removing the 'ask' command and replacing it with 'freinds' as the only option - it should stop all this from happening (albeit we cant then use the feature to keep droppers out of tourneys - but thats a small price).  There wil be no advantage to making nicks to ruin a rep - and therefore no system cleanups to do - well, connected to repbot that is.

These are two simple and immediate steps - lets do them now - Patti gave it until the end of March to be cleaned up - this could remove enough trouble that maybe she will tolerate its presence into the future.

As Patti said -
Quote"Yes, I think it should stay and I'm willing to write code so that Patti doesn't have to spend as much time dealing with its problems."

There is no code to be written here- just some tweaking - but it could make a real difference- if we stop waiting for Patti to agree - and do it - there is every chance she might forget repbot was ever much of a hassle.
Never give up on the things that make you smile
