Hacking of fibs account

hello all

my username gogogiz and Grant was hacked and passwords changed.
They had gone into shouts and shouted things in answer to what diane was shouting as gogogiz!  this person also removed my vouches for friends and replaced them with complaints.
they had logged in to parlor play to do this to hide ip.

i got in contact with rod@parlorplay and explained to him what happened and gave him times of the last logins from my nicks and asked if he could help.
i fowarded everything to patti about this.
this is what got back from him.

The offending IP addresses are:

81.1.120.32  2004-11-27 at about 18:32 GMT
81.1.120.14  2004-11-28 at about 09:53 GMT
81.1.120.14  2004-11-28 at about 11:19 GMT
81.1.120.11  2004-11-28 at about 20:44 GMT

I am CC'ing this to the abuse contact for the offender's
ISP, who will hopefully care that their user is hacking into
the online accounts of others.

By the way the FIBS server seems to have its clock running
a few minutes fast (the times given above are accurate).

after getting this and finding out who the person was it all made sense how they got my password.
i have used there computer to log into fibs at their house before as gogogiz and they also know that i have username grant as well.

i do not want to mention anyones names at present. i will post more details if needed.

it seems to me that you are the second person that ive heard of who's had their identity stolen via parlor play.  it would seem obvious but perhaps the solution is to NOT use that interface.    unless rod can come up with an explanation and some reassurances that this cannot happen again there seems to be no reason to use that particular one especially in light others which offer more features and are easier to use (read 3dfibs)

this morning i had an email from alef.. this is it...

It wasn't Diane's idea, it was entirely mine. Mike is a very good
friend of mine and I have deep respect for his tournaments and trust in
others, I've been totally disgusted by how you've abused it.

I was on the phone with Mike from very early on and was backing him in
getting the police on to you. We simply wanted to wait first to see if
you'd cough it up without having to get heavy handed. Stealing your
nick was my way of telling you what I think of your appalling
behaviour.

If you want your nick then simply ring Mike and tell him you're sorry.
Have you even offered to pay for the cab fare involved in collecting
the board? That would be a nice gesture, though I will return it for
simply an apology on the phone.

alef then logged into fibs and told me what the passwords are to my nicks so now i have gogogiz and Grant back again.

i would like to thank all my friends for standing by me in this and trusting me so thankyou to you all. see you on fibs  ^_^

I think that hacking another FIBSter's account is one of the worst things a user can do.  It certainly makes gogo's side of the backgammon board controversy sound better by contrast.
