Following yet another of the 'please post in English posts'  sockseys post can we have some clarification on this please?  We have seen webrunners views on this in this post and sockseys subsequent reply.  This occurs every time there is a gathering of fibsters in a non english speaking country, and it seems very unfair.  The rules of this board do not state that posts should be in English - and for some this is not possible - online translators are not an option - give them a try if you dont believe me!!  

Either posting in other languages is allowed - and moderators in those languages should be appointed - or it isnt - and the rules should state that.  This constant haranguing of people who have put a lot of effort into a post seems petty to me.

Btw - I would have referenced the rules - but they seem to be missing today!!

Everyone in the World does not speak English.
If someone posts in another language, and you just HAVE to know what it says, there are plenty of free translators such as Babel Fish out there.

Trouble is - babelfish makes such a mess of it, we know this from trying to decipher the gbot website - if you really have to know EVERYTHING, get a friend to translate - there are plenty willing.....but better still - know that some things arent meant for everyone....

Who's being petty?  It was only a request that English be used and I thought I asked very kindly.     I have seen cassandra shout in English.    

If this is too difficult for anyone, they can say so and I will deal with that.  I'm an understanding person in this regard since I only speak one language myself.

Here's hoping no one is offended by this, but as many have said, "You can't please everyone."

Socksey seems to be missing the point. Why is she asking people to post in English? Fibs is for everybody and if people who don't speak English, or perhaps more importantly, people who want to communicate with people who don't speak English, want to post in other languages, so what? If her objection is that she can't censor the post for offensive content, then what of it? Actually, so far as I am aware, all the crap comes from people who post in English or American! The likelihood of somebody slipping in a naughty word while trying to arrange a fibs party in Switzerland seems a bit remote.

As i stated earlier, this is an international forum. Posts in other languages then english are allowed. We depend on the community for moderation of these posts (tell me or socksey when you see a post that is "over the edge".

The only thing you have to realize is that yopu will reach a smaller public with your post when it is not in english, but then again, that might be your intention

I think we should clarify something here. When we mean English, we mean AMERICAN English, not this bastardization that people from the UK or Australia speak. Anyone speaking with a funny accent here will be banned immediately!
