posted earlier at another forum, but I think it belongs here...

Hi all..

Since Mini's and Bago have been way off scheduled time lately, I think we need to discuss what we do if a scheduled tourney is late. Seems to me that running scheduled tourneys hours off schedule isn't acceptable.

If we can't rely on the time set for the scheduled tourneys we will have to live here to be able to participate.

We can have as many tourneys as we like at all times, but it just can't be the scheduled ones. They have to run on time.

In my view it has to be this way in order for all to participate on equal terms..

Tourney must start at the right time, but i think we can accept a little delay.
Can you send me please which tourneys started late.
And don't forget one thing. For Bago we started it with many TDs and only 2 stay, one new come recently.
The question can be also : Must we keep Bago even with late session or prefer to stop it ?

DirtyHarryII

Hi Tom

I agree that a small delay is ok.

I know there's too few TD's to run tourneys smoothly. I agree that a soloution could be to cut down on Bago which is the tourney that takes up most resources TD wise. And maybe only run it once a week like F3 & mini's. Or we could leave Bago as it is - twice a week - and make a general rule saying that if a scheduled tourney isn't started it on time (within reason) it doesn't run that day.

Well Bago was very late today and Mini's yesterday. Bago has been very late on earlier occasions, but I can't remember the exact dates.

More TD's is another soloution....

Just some thoughts....

any other opinions on the matter ??

I agree with DH2 that tourneys must start at the right time but since there is a problem with hosting, people must understand and be patient. The main problem is the lack of Tournament Director's interest.

As Tomawaky said bagolympics run by only 3 tds and don't forget that this specific tourney is running twice a week!!!

As for Minimatches, something happen to Socksey and she won't be online for some days. As you know very few TDs left for helping in official scheduled tourneys. These ones had to run this tourney. We canââ,¬â,,¢t blame these TDs who had to run an additional tourney if they didnââ,¬â,,¢t arrive in time. They have other responsibilities too!!!

All fibsters must understand TDs as they lose a lot of their valuable time unselfishly to run all these tourneys.

Finally if anyone believes that he has extra time and he is interesting to help as a TD in schedule tourneys, he can communicate with me. There is a lot of place for everyone who wants really to help!!!

DirtyHarryII

Hi Adam...

I most certainly don't want to blame anybody for this. I know you all try very hard to make ends meet. I'm merely stating that here's a problem and we have to deal with it in the best way possible in the interest of all of us.

If there was a rule saying somethimg like : "if a scheduled tourney is delayed more than 30 min. it won't run". I'm sure we all would understand. And it would be fair to those who participate.
Clear rules on matters like this will leave out the problems in the future and might take some pressure of the TD's.

Hi again DirtyHarryII,

I understand what you mean and as a regular player i agree with you that it's fair to start a tourney with all the players that they want to play and not after a period that some of them would leave.

As you said there are two solutions to this problem. The first one is more TDs. As i said if anyone is interesting, he can send me an email. The second one is the rule you mention.  I think it is very difficult to convince all the tourney's owners to add this rule in their tourney's rules. As you know each tourney has its own rules!!!  This is my personal opinion. Maybe Tomawaky or Kari_grandi can help you more than me in this point!!!

I have run many tournaments - and if someone is prepared to deal with the issue of bad TDs - I am happy to rejoin the squad - sunday mornings are great for me - and most other slots on a bi weekly basis - but will not participate while I feel corruption is rife. Long live the honest tournament  :D

Corruption?  Dishonesty?  What are you talking about, diane?

As far as Mini-Matches is concerned, I have been taking that on mostly on my own since diane quit her Mini-Match cohosting duties.

The past two Saturday's, I had a close death in the family to deal with and had arranged a host and a possible backup host while I would be gone.  Sorry, my backup/s didn't show on time.

I think if a host is a maximum of 30 min late, the tourney should be postponed until next regularly scheduled tourney time.  I don't mind skipping a tourney once in a while but I do mind missing one when I was there on time, left after some time, then found out the tourney was played a bit after I left, and it was more than half an hour.  When scores are totalled cumulatively, there should be a level playing field IMHO.

Mini's hasn't had this problem before, so it hasn't come up, but that rule will be implimented as of now.  If for some reason, Mini-Matches doesn't begin within 30 minutes of scheduled time, the tourney will be postponed until the following Saturday.

You know to what I refer - I am trying to keep it low profile - but since you push - I will not play alongside someone who expects favours if they know the TD - and then give that same TD a heap of trouble for making a stand.  I took it long enough - it became too much to bear.  I am sorry you cannot find a reliable 'other' for that tourney - but I quit when support for me became non existent - and even hostile (you may recall taking over my last tournament forcibly on saturday) - do not suggest I dropped on a whim - it was a long thought out and argued case. You were on the power trip - enjoy it - I hope you packed all you need.
If the TD situation is resolved - and I feel I can trust ALL those I work with - you could count on me - as things stand - count me out.

Consider also - these things do not make it easier to recruit new TDs - when they have all this to face, on top of the usual fibs hassles.

When Mini's been off scheduled time?
Last two weeks when sockseys been away, gogo and I've been hosting Mini's in it's normal starting time: 16.00 UTC!!

Hi Kari....

Seems I mixed up starting times concerning mini's. So you're right. Mini's were on time this saturday. So I regret stating that it wasn't and I apologize.

Excuse me, but I thought you brought it up again.  As far as I'm concerned, it is a dead issue.  I thought perhaps you had found some new supposed evil.

Quotebut I quit when support for me became non existent - and even hostile (you may recall taking over my last tournament forcibly on saturday)
You must be delusional.  Hostile takeovers are not in my being.       Quite frankly, I can't see you allowing a hostile takeover.  I always considered you more formidable than that.

Oh, and I'm happy to hear that Mini-Matches was only slightly late once.   Thanks, Kari!  ;)

Welcome back Socksey. I am happy that you are with us again!!!

I did not remember if your tourney started late when Kari_Grandi and Gogogiz hosted them the last two Saturdays.  So i mention that you were away and i wanted to make people to understand that there are always some reasons which make tournaments to start late.

Kari_Grandiââ,¬â,,¢s reply was very enlightening. Minimatches started on time so no-one can accuse you of anything!!!!

DirtyHarryII

Hi adam..

You're right about mini's matches. My mistake. And I apologize again.

And I'll say this again - I'm NOT out to get the TD's in any way.

I'm just saying that IF a tourney has to be fair to those of us who want to participate, it needs to run at scheduled time - within reason - or not run that day at all. Socksey put it so nice earlier - so I'll just make a quote.......

It seems that you already convince 2 of them DirtyharryII. I don't have any problem to contain this rule to Rating Championship's rules either so few owners left to accept it in order  to make this rule a general rule!!! :D

DirtyHarryII

I hope and believe that it'll benefit all of us, players as well as TDs who take part in or host the various tourneys. At least that was the intention.

thx all.... :D

For sunday it's actually "if possible"

As I already said, any Fibster who will be pleased to host some of our sessions is welcome.
