Players with dirty mouth

Dear Friends,

I'm playing here around 4 months by now & mostly is quite fun & enjoyable.
The problem is that there are some players which have forgotten the basic of being here (fun) & got addicted 2 the rate system,  one of the side effect of this addiction is speaking dirty words towards their opponents, probably when they got upset of not achieving their expected match rate.

I'd like 2 bring here one case & hopefully more players will bring theirs, so together we can eliminate this problem

The player i'm talking about is holkeri .
We start to play 9 points match & he was cubing all the time( even from the beginning as well ). In a certain point i was leading   6 :3 & cubing was on 2 for him, I cube again (meaning - 4 to me now) . Then he replayed with the following quoted message:" holkeri kibitzes: not just lucky but also stupid, wow what a combination!"

Well i might have done a mistake by letting him 2 cube again & make it a final game 4 both of us but first, assuming i was wrong(we do mistakes all the time here & on our life), which i dont want to get into a discussion on that as this is not the topic, his respond reflect the reason which i said in the beginning "mostely is quite fun & enjoyable" & not 100% fun & enjoyable (not including droppers & slow players of course:))

 Btw if u got curious concerning the match score, then i won, as the situation was very clear, to be mine.

Is your choice to decide with whom 2 play & we can say no to dirty mouth players such as holkeri

Be well & play well

Greetings

Ronen

Whilst usually preferring to stick to the positive.......now you mention it ronen, something happened that made me log out quicker than i normally would have last week and left me in no hurry to return. Whilst that might be good news for those this post is directed towards, it's stayed with me since and i'll take this opportunity to get it off my chest.

A regular shouter made a really weak and offensive comment about the prizes donated for the soon to start tourney. I've seen this before from a select few. If these few players (especially those that partake ! ) could show a little respect to the kind souls who donate their time and money, for no better reason than the enjoyment of others ! It would edge my time on fibs closer to 100% enjoyable. Try a thanks , I challange you. It's less typing !

Let's not get too sensitive guys. Holkeri's comment says a lot about holkeri and nothing about ronen. Don't play him again and move on. As for Eddy's "really weak and offensive" comment, well which is it? If it was weak it can hardly be offensive and vice versa. Toughen up! No Aussie I've ever met cried this easily! :D Can he really be from the land that gave us Dennis Lillee and Dean Jones? I think not.

hi ronen

some weeks ago i had quite the same problem with this guy. ItÃ,´s not much fun to play those people but we canÃ,´t keep them away from playing on fibs nor should we.
I am playing now for about 1 year on fibs and i must say that i always find some people which donÃ,´t like me or i them. What i learned is, i have to try to ignore them.

I am from where Dennis and Dean came from Dorbel :) and feel sure if not proud that they too would cringe over the lame nature of the attempted funny.

I chose "weak and offensive" because i felt the comment displayed weak character by he who made it and was clearly offensive to those whom it was directed towards.

I agree with not being over sensitive and the potential folly of naming names.

There is always two sides to the story.  But I feel content having gotten it off my chest by posting my distaste here. I don't cry too easily  ;) If anyone can convince me calling someone stupid when they've never met them or shout what these few have, is good for fibs, then step right up :)

There are basics, please don't try to offend. Please.

Dorbel u r missing the all point .
Of course i wont play again with him, but i assumed as he spoken not nice (believe me without any provocation) to me he is used to speek to others as well.

I just wanted to let others know it & prevent them from being abused as it happend to me

dorbel

Yes ronen, I am sure that you are a very nice person and if all the people in the world were nice to each other on a daily basis, it would be heaven. Until that day comes, Fibs will present a cross section of the personality types to be found around the planet. You need to develop a thicker skin. Holkeri's stupid virtual insult is just that, it's not a smack in the mouth, he didn't steal your lunch, it's just some dull-witted words written on your screen. I've seen worse, but in my experience, much less than 1% of my matches have featured this sort of nonsense. We can avoid holkeri, but there will always be another. Enjoy the 99% of fibsters who play nice and laugh at Far King Numbskulls like this one.

Don't forget burper's Repbot!  Complain about players who are very rude or who drop.    This helps other players avoid these players if they choose to.  If you don't know about Repbot, when in Fibs, command, "tell repbot help".  All the commands for Repbot will be at your command.

Hi socksey

Its the first thing I did but thank you for your attention

Is this really what RepBot is for?

I've always assumed RepBot is there to allow fibsters to register complaints about people displaying the more extreme forms of anti-social behaviour on FIBS - dropping and refusing to resume and particularly offensive comments.

Yes holkeri was a bit rude to ronen, but where does his comment rate on the anti-social scale?

Perhaps a 2 out of 10.

I really don't think it was rude enough for someone effectively to put their own reputation on the line by complaining.

To me, these kind of complaints on RepBot (the guy didn't drop and refuse to resume, he didn't swear, he just whinged a bit) negates it's effectiveness.

diane

There has been talk of making the complaints more specific, but until then - I would rather see complaints go on for that.  I dont want to play someone who uses that form of distractive play.  That is the idea - annoy you so you lose concentration, or force you to drop rather than keep putting up with the abuse (some people dont work out how to stop it - personally I close my dialogue box and dont read anything there until after the match, or maybe not at all).  It is a nasty tactic - and the resort of a very poor player - and fully worthy of a complaint in my opinion.

I have the soap ready!

In considering jag's post, and rereading holkeri's comments, I tend to agree with jag, somewhat.  This would be a personal thing and how offensive your find someone.  Everyone has their own guage.  Some find it offensive and some don't.  I guess that would be however your conscience guides you.

I have advocated in the past that repbot complaints be reserved for droppers  only, and I still lean toward this idea, since to me, droppers are the main issue.  I say again as I have said many times before........DEATH TO DROPPERS!!!!!

There was a rumor going around, and I have no doubt it was true, having run into several of it's victims, that a group of fibsters had the grand plan to boost one of their members reputations by coercing others to vouch for this one person.  I find that practice abhorrent, adolescent behavior, and I cannot condone it.

Distraction is another issue.  I like diane's solution.   :P

Ronen, you've only been here 4 months.  You will find your own ways to deal with offensive behavior on Fibs.  Hang in.  It gets easier!  Get your armor on   , or your AMOUR going.     One of them is bound to work.

On the other hand, I kinda like it when sox talks dirty to me, distracting as it may be.

I've been playing on FIBS for over a year.  FIBS has the expected number of trashy people.  If the actions of these few are shared with others, they'll change or go away.  Here's an example, the Kibitz from a match last night with a real looser.  I've sent an email to Patti and hope that others will refuse to play with this person.
----------------------
Hi Patti,
I tried to complete a 7 pt. match yesterday evening with a ââ,¬Å"mamaligaââ,¬Â . This person was by far the crudest FIBS member Iââ,¬â,,¢ve ever encountered.  Following is a copy of our kibitz.  To make matters worse, Mamaliga logged off of FIBS just as I was to win a doubled game and the match 7 to 0.  I am disappointed that I will not be able to score the points Iââ,¬â,,¢ve earned, however, I think it is more important that an effort be made to deny access to persons like this.
Sincerely,

USA_NEB

You kibitz: GL

It's for sure that a complaint is the most appropriate reaction for a dropper, but I would like to add another case here. Many of the rating addicted players are very galant if they would lose a game, but many are not. I would very easily record a complaint for a snobber like that also, who goes ballistic because he lost a game to a player with a lesser rating.
These people harm the community and make many newer players misunderstand what fibs is about. Just a personal opinion...

socksey

I hate to burst any bubbles, but Patti doesn't normally react to dropper complaints.  We have Repbot, which has been down for the past 3 days.  I hope it is back in service soon.  This helps determine undesirable players but not a sure fire indication since it has been abused badly.

Best thing is to remember the bad ones and don't play them again.  Don't lose any sleep over them.  Not worth it.   :P

It is difficult to read through every thread here, looking for names of droppers and rude people. Perhaps a list could be created and put in the menu to make it easier? I don't wish to censor anyone, but if there was a way to avoid these people in the first place, it might make fibs a friendlier place to play.

If you personally find someone rude or obnoxious....just add them to your ignore list.  Use a client like JavaFibs which handles this excellently.  Use your own brain to come up with your own opinions and conclusions.  shesh

And well done on breaking the record for most posts on Halloween!
