In the early hours of the morning (Fibs Server Time) I happened to be around when a mild slanging match erupted between don and zyxtcba. There was even some input from other members of the fibs community. I'm sure you will find it amusing. Here is what transpired.

don shouts: You would lose your job if your school district saw your shouts here zyx, which is why you fear it
zyxtcba shouts: under what grounds, don?
zyxtcba shouts: moral turpitude?

NIHolympic shouts: what does it take to get tossed from fibs ?
zyxtcba shouts: it takes being a sanctimonious twit.

don shouts: let's find out zyx. What school district?
zyxtcba shouts: you know something don - when I woke up this morning, no one said I was to be answerable to you. If there is any difference tomorrow when I wake up to go to work, I'll let you know. But I wouldn't bet on it.

zyxtcba shouts: You ask me personal questions like we were friends don. We most certainly are not.

You shout: you see, Zyx lets out all his filth in here, so tomorrow when he goes to work, he has a clear conscience.

don shouts: thanks zyx, I'll await the name of the school district.

zyxtcba shouts: which will happen first: a) don gets laid or b. don gets the answer to his question? or c) NONE OF THE ABOVE.

don shouts: Why are you afraid for them to see you on FIBS, zyx?
zyxtcba shouts: my kids don't play bg
You shout: bg would be a good exercise for maths students
zyxtcba shouts: so that was a meaningless statement ... agian.
don shouts: Your students and fellow teachers, zyx. Why are you afraid to let them see you here?

don shouts: I was just wondering if you were answerable to your colleagues and students.
You shout: use your powers of reasoning don, what teacher would recommend their students to come here?
zyxtcba shouts: not an issue don - I don't pry into my colleague's lives outside of work.
zyxtcba shouts: I'm sure I'd see some very interesting things.
zyxtcba shouts: but then don is a bit of an anachronism - he still thinks I should show up early to work to chop wood and sharpen quills.

zyxtcba shouts: and then any parent who would allow their child to be here unattended ... well, that's another matter.
You shout: don is from the old school of thought
zyxtcba shouts: I don't think don has any school of thought.

don shouts: I'm simply asking, zyx, if your behavior here is acceptable, why not make it open to your fellow teachers? I think you say things here that UN-acceptable in a teacher of children.

zyxtcba shouts: I don't go to work and discuss my private life in general don.

don shouts: Don't ask me to judge, but don't hide it from those who should know about it.
zyxtcba shouts: I don't need to know about their private lives don - I'm not nosey, apparently unlike you.
You shout: zyx merely comes here to let off steam and get out of his normal environemnt
zyxtcba shouts: actually, I come here to play bg but I allow myself to be distracted.

don shouts: As you know, zyx, the internet is not only not private, it's even open for jerks like you to exhibit criminal behavior. I don't hide my ID, you do. I don't because I'm not a criminal. You do because you are.

zyxtcba shouts: No don - YOU said I was hiding criminal behavior. You did this without contacting any school district or other sources. So tell me don - what law am I breaking?
don shouts: yup. So let's get it out in the open, zyx.
You shout: now zyx is a criminal for having privacy?
don shouts: Anakin, privacy is not a shield to criminal behavior.

zyxtcba shouts: so don - what laws am I breaking?

zyxtcba shouts: the Educational Code for the State of California may be available on line.
zyxtcba shouts: what law(s) am I breaking don?
zyxtcba shouts: or I guess even policies would do.

zyxtcba shouts: nope - don says my behavior on FIBS is illegal but he can't back it up.
don shouts: May I ask you a question, zyx, about when you quoted an article from rec.games.backgammon in December? Do you remember cutting and pasting it here?

zyxtcba shouts: Wait - don is right - it says right here in my contract that "if I tell don to shove his bg board up his ass until he tastes the checkers," I gotta quit.

zyxtcba shouts: no don, I don't but I am remindable. Did it have something to do with your son Adolph?
don shouts: That's OK, you've shown you lack any kind of honesty. thanks zyx
zyxtcba shouts: yes - any kind at all.

zyxtcba shouts: then remind me to drop you next time we play, since finishing a match is honest behavior, no?

You shout: is flaming a crime?
don shouts: No Anakin, but slander, libel and theft of ID is.

zyxtcba shouts: so when you say "any kind," you are not right, right?
zyxtcba shouts: will you apologize?
zyxtcba shouts: I took someone's ID? what - janana_is_a_dropper? bwahahahahaha
zyxtcba shouts: yes - I need to file a motion for discovery to know what the hell you are talking about.

zyxtcba shouts: don - I'm gonna go now - but that doesn't need to keep you from babbling about me. I'll stay logged on just for you. But it's not like I'm gonna scroll up in the morning to check on your pearls of wisdom. I tell you what - I'm gonna check with the Union Rep at my school and let him know about my behavior on FIBS and see what he says, ok? Is that ok for you, don?

it amuses me to no end that supposedly grown adults can act like 8 yr olds behind the anonymity the internet provides.  would any of these folks actually behave this way if they were to meet in person?  i would hope not but if they would, then there seems to be more serious issues at hand than a backgammon match.

I must admit the fibs chat log was too long. I just wanted people to see how grown adults act on fibs. To me it was amusing how don kept hammering zyxtcba with questions and the creative way that zyxtcba avoided answering them.

I thought the language was acceptable. There was maybe 2 words that could be deemed mildly offensive and I didn't think it was anything worse than what kids hear at school.

It was also my attempt to add a bit of humour to fibsboard. But I guess I went about it the wrong way.
