No, I rarely intersect with the American community now, and certainly not when they are, shall we say, at their friskiest...I didnt see any of the shouts spelling out the intention to cut off shouts if certain undefined standards were not met...

I could tell something was afoot by the series of bannings leading up to this..maria of all people - making her own unique stand against overuse of a certain profanity  , kid for something he was bored of telling by the time I asked, a few others and lastly - and not least zyx...

But that doesnt mean I had any clue that one day this week I would log in after work, at quiet 'just us Aussies' time  [oh and factotum endlessly limericking...suddenly my world seems short of limericks]...and find shouts were disabled for me.  It left me wondering who had pushed us over the edge...and what over..

But - as I said to Patti today - now that tourneybot and MissManners can shout...I think that is enough - we have all had enough of the krap.  If you want your 'adult banter' start a match and use the kibitz area.

I am gonna use the time to enjoy fibs as it could always be.

But what I find strangest is that you suggest FIBS shout was only used for 'adult banter'. Most of the time it was just a lot of fun, and if it wasn't, there was always gag or toggle silent.

Right now, FIBS has become a funeral without flowers as one FIBSter put it. The atmosphere resembles a library.

BTW, I've seen you use shout quite a lot over the years, and not just to announce tourneys or droppers. But I've never complained about that. Live and let live.

We would be myself and the 3:1 who prefer fibs without the unpleasant shouts.

I do miss the fun and jovial banter of shouts, I miss the 'hello fibs' shouts - I even miss factotums limericks, but I dont miss the racial hatred, the personal attacks,the belittling of newbies, the squabbling and other negative aspects of shouts.

People justify that negativity by calling it 'adult banter', I dont think that is what it is - but that is what they call it.  They can still do it was my point - in a match environment, in their gang, together - without offending anyone else.

I like zyx, many others dont - I can have a match with him and in the kibitz area he can say what he wants - he will almost certainly make me laugh and not piss anyone else off in the process.

Since in the 16? years of fibs this is the first time shouts are not a place where all of that negativity goes on - maybe this is the only real solution.

I was in the process of mentioning just that, Zorba, but in not so polite a way, when an error occurred and most of my post was lost!    Perhaps it's for the best.     Prolly would have started a full force flame war again!

The solution is not to ban shout because you don't like it.
The solution is for you to use toggle silent and others to decide if they want to hear or not shouts.
Is it so complicate to let freedom to others ? and not decide for them ?

No, it hasn't been independently assessed- and I would suggest that you are more likely to see the cross section of the fibs public who want shouts than those who turn it off almost immediately they join fibs, never to turn it on again - because of what goes on there.

Diane, diane, diane...............you always amaze me with your interpretation of what I say!  There is nowhere in that post where I said anything resembling having shouts censored on Fibs?  Of course, I am horrified at some of the remarks that were there on that day!    No, I would never be happy with what you said!   :'(I would have gagged some people there that day if I had been there, for sure.
