FIBS Board backgammon forum

what is Command, Kibitz, Say, Shout, Tell, & Whisper on the bottom of the board.

I guess Kibitz is the way to talk with your opponent and anyone else who may be watching. I'm not really sure about the others.

Kibitz is heard by your opponenet and anyone watching.
Say is heard only by your opponent.
Shout is heard by everyone on FIBS.
Tell goes out to a certain indiviual you've chosen.
Whisper is used when you are watching a game and don't want to disturb the players.  Whispers are only heard by other watchers.
Hope this helps.

May I make a suggestion?

Go visit http://www.fibs.com/sitemap.html and read it, especially the section Frequently Asked Questions. There you'll find the answers to all your questions and even more.

I would like to second Hardy's suggestion, and make one of my own: never listen to maria, as she is often wrong. Two examples:

QuoteShout is heard by everyone on FIBS.

Wrong: shout is heard by everyone on FIBS who has not toggled silent on and who does not have you gagged.

Quote
Whisper is used when you are watching a game

Wrong: whisper is used when you are watching or playing a match.
Excrement, you're better off listening to don than maria!

Thanks for the kind words, burper.
They have inspired me to never try to help again.
You are a true inspiration.
