The sound bug seems to be back on some of the latest platforms. I have these reports for JRE 1.6.0_23 on Windows and the default Sun JDK for Ubuntu (unconfirmed)

Ubuntu: Sound device not found
Windows 7: Quirks and rough edges in sound, similar to the distortion we had before the 1.009 fix.

In the windows case, a new and more agressive JIT compiler shipping with JRE 1.6.0_23 (and later) seems to be the cause of the problem.

Will look into it time permitting.
